Smart meters are often installed on the outside of the wall of a main living area or bedroom, where residents spend a lot of time. In addition to the omnidirectional, pulsed radio frequency field that’s often emitted many times per minute, the meter also produces a strong magnetic field that can radiate several feet into the house. To send data to and from the power company, this sharply pulsed RF wave is often produced every 3 to 7 seconds, and even up to 190,000 times per day.
Although utility companies claim that smart meters are within FCC guidelines regarding safe levels of RF exposure, this is not true, because what is being measured is the average reading, not the peak reading. This means that the incredibly strong RF spikes you are actually exposed to are being statistically averaged down to much lower levels by factoring in every single second where there is no RF output at all. If one were to measure the strength of the actual RF spikes, they are often 200 times the strength of the documented “average”.
Daniel Hirsch, Professor of Nuclear Policy at the University of California-Santa Cruz, calculated that the whole-body cumulative radiation exposure from wireless meters is 100–150 times higher than cell phone exposure. The graph below, from Professor Hirsch’s report, shows the cumulative bodily RF exposure of smart meters (at a distance of 3 feet), compared to cell phones, microwave ovens, Wifi routers, radio/TV broadcasts, and a smart meter from a further distance.
This graph shows why close proximity to a smart meter can be devastating to health. Cecelia Doucette, a technology safety educator and the director of Massachusetts for Safe Technology, states that, “These meters are installed directly on our homes and elsewhere with no informed consent, and people unwittingly sleep or spend time on the other side of the wall and get very, very ill.”
However, the risks of health harm from a smart meter on your home are not negated much by staying further away from it. This is because the smart meter actually communicates with your in-home electrical appliances every couple of seconds, to record specific appliance usage. This happens through the electrical wiring of your house. The meter uses something called a switched mode power supply to change the voltage every time it moves between the meter and the electrical line, and since it does this every couple of seconds, it generates an enormous amount of what is known as “voltage transients” or “line noise”, now more popularly known as dirty electricity.
Dirty electricity is a spiky, pulsed, highly variable electrical current that rides through all the circuitry of a building, and radiates a few feet into every room, near where the electrical lines run behind the wall, as well as behind each electrical outlet. It can have devastating health effects.
Unfortunately, this means that if you are lucky and persuasive enough to convince the power company to shut off the RF signal emission to and from your smart meter, or to replace it with what’s being called an “Opt-Out meter” in some places, you are not eliminating the dirty electricity problem at all. The smart meter is still actively collecting detailed data from all your appliances; it’s just not sending it via RF to the power company anymore, so only one part of your problem is solved.
This survey and report on the health effects of smart meters compiles data from a questionnaire filled out by 201 people who claim that smart meters have damaged their health. Some of these people already considered themselves electro hypersensitive (EHS) before their smart meter was installed, but the smart meter made it much worse. Others did not consider themselves EHS before the smart meter, but state that the meter exposure has made them hypersensitive to all EMF sources, including their cell phone and computer, which many did not have issues with previously.
The report also summarizes the most common symptoms the survey participants experienced from smart meter exposure. The most commonly reported symptoms that were either new or worsened from exposure were ear ringing, headaches, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, fatigue and heart arrhythmias. 42% of the survey participants actually developed their symptoms prior to the knowledge of the presence of smart meters, and before they had any awareness of RF radiation danger, which rules out psychosomatic factors.
These high-tech meters are not just a risk to your health, they also come with safety and privacy issues. They have become notorious for exploding and causing house fires. EMF electrical consultant Cindy Sage explains that smart meters can create an over-current condition on the wiring and produce heat that the neutral cannot properly handle, which can lead to fires. This stress on the wiring is caused by the short, intense bursts of very high intensity radio frequency emissions, which can spike the voltage too high.
Other potential causes of smart meter explosions are incompatibilities between the old meter base and the new meter, loose connections, and defective equipment. So far, hundreds of thousands of meters have been replaced either because of an actual explosion or fire caused by the meter, or meters that were suspected to be defective and potentially unsafe. In 2015 in Stockton, California, a truck crashed into a utility pole, which caused a power surge that resulted in about 50-60 smart meters exploding and catching on fire at residential homes. Although power companies publicly deny that smart meters carry a risk of explosion and fires, they have installed voltage and heat sensors on the meters as a precautionary measure, for monitoring purposes. Actions speak louder than words.
Another major issue with smart meters is related to privacy and security. The meters collect extremely detailed data about your in-home electricity usage, including which appliances are used, how often, and when. Then this data is transmitted wirelessly, and wireless data is much easier to intercept and hack than a secure wired connection. This means that anyone with some tech know-how and bad intentions can discover what you’re doing and when you’re doing it, and may be able to use that information to take advantage of you.
Also, it’s becoming widely known that utility providers can collect and sell your power usage data to third-party companies, as long as they withhold identifiable personal information like your name and social security number from these companies. Of course, they tell you this is for your benefit, so that they can “serve you better”. They make a lot of money selling this information, so it makes sense that we should be seeing considerable reductions in our electricity bills if we have smart meters, since the utility providers are making money from our personal usage data. Then why have electricity costs only gone up?
One of the most concerning aspects of the two-way data transmission of smart meters is the fact that our meters are now remotely controlled from the utility headquarters. This means they can turn our power off anytime, for any reason they deem necessary. If we miss our bill payment due date, they can shut off our power instantly right from the source, instead of having to send a service technician to our house to do it manually. They also have the power to control our usage, and it’s not unrealistic to imagine a so-called energy crisis moment where they decide that it’s best for the collective that our thermostats stay within a narrower range on an exceptionally cold or hot day, when the power grid is extra busy.
Utility companies have been busy for more than a decade replacing as many older analog and digital meters with smart meters as possible, so chances are high that you currently have a smart meter installed on your house. Can you get rid of it? If so, how do you do this, and what are the potential downsides and complications of doing so?
It depends on where you live. Since the initial rollout of smart meters, due to widespread opposition from individuals, several states have enacted statewide opt-out policies. Other states have unique policies, or case-by-case opt-out programs. State legislatures are being confronted with this issue more and more frequently, so even more opt-out policies are being considered.
You can look up the details of the smart meter opt-out policies of your state here:https://www.ncsl.org/energy/smart-meter-opt-out-policies
Unfortunately, most states that do allow opt-outs charge a one-time fee, as well as a monthly fee, to complain that you not having a smart meter is inconvenient for them. The fees vary considerably by state, ranging from single digit monthly fees to hundreds of dollars in one-time fees. Iowa now allows residents to opt-out and keep their analog meters at no charge.
New Hampshire, as usual, sets the precedent as the state to look up to: not only is there no charge to keep your old meter, but they actually have an ‘opt-in’ policy instead of opt-out, where utility companies must obtain written consent before they can install a smart meter on a home or business.
Pennsylvania, however, has a statewide requirement that utility companies deploy smart meters across their entire service area, and customers are not allowed to opt out for any reason.
The main issues with these fees concerns electro hypersensitive (EHS) individuals, and the considerable threat that smart meters pose to their health, functionality and well being. Ed Friedman, a Maine resident who filed a disability/discrimination lawsuit against a Maine power company for not agreeing to waive fees to accommodate his disability, states that his doctor recommends that he should not be exposed to any RF radiation in his home. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities from accessing government programs and services. Because of his debilitating sensitivity to RF radiation, he is being forced to pay monthly fees to use an analog electric meter that doesn’t aggravate his condition. Disabled people often have budget constraints, because they are often not able to work, so these monthly fees can be the breaking point for many of them.
Children’s Health Defense has been working towards establishing more freedom of choice when it comes to smart meter exposure. They wrote up a template letter that you can easily send to your state legislators in support of utility meter choice, and are urging everyone concerned about this issue to take this simple step towards more awareness and choice:
Tell Your State Legislators to Introduce/Support Utility Meter Choice
Some states, like Texas, allow you to request to have two-way meter communication turned off, which will solve the issue of RF radiation exposure, and will minimize the privacy and security concerns of wireless data transmission. However, as mentioned earlier, it may not affect dirty electricity exposure or meter safety issues at all.
The Smart Meter Education Network is an excellent resource for Michigan residents, but also has information that should be very useful for anyone wanting to learn more about the dangers of smart meters, and how to replace yours with a safer alternative.
If you currently have a smart meter, and are not able to get rid of it because of the expense involved, or limitations in your state laws, are there ways to protect yourself from its harmful radio frequency radiation and dirty electricity?
Yes! There are a few things you can do. First, make sure your smart meter is as far as possible from your main living area, and especially your bed. If your bed is on the opposite wall of your smart meter, it would be a good idea to move it somewhere else. Some people like to use a metal mesh smart meter cover to create a Faraday cage around their meter, which will block most of the measurable RF radiation emitted by the meter, but will still allow enough signal to get through the send data to the power company. You could also use dirty electricity filters on your home electrical outlets to reduce the intensity of the line noise/voltage transients caused by the meter.
Those options will likely offer some relief by reducing exposure, but if you have a smart meter on your home, we strongly recommend that you use an appropriate strength home Blushield device, which will create a stronger, biologically coherent scalar field that protects your body at the cell level. This is an effective way to internally mitigate any EMFs that are not possible or practical to remove from your space. The chaotic, stressful field produced by the smart meter’s pulsed RF, magnetic field and dirty electricity can trigger the body to mount an immune response, like it’s attacking an invader that’s never defeated. Adding a Blushield field to that space acts like a bubble of protection for your cells, calming the overactive immune response and surrounding you with a nature-based frequency field.
The home Blushield device you choose should depend on your overall EMF exposure, considering all sources like smart meters (yours and your neighbors’), Wifi routers, cell phones, smart devices, nearby cell towers, dirty electricity and more. For a straightforward and easy way to determine the best home and portable Blushield models for your needs, please read our Blushield Product Guide.
Devra Davis, PhD, and President of the Environmental Health Trust, shares her opinion of the 2024 NTP announcement:
“The government’s decision to stop funding research on cell phone radiation is consistent with the Chinese proverb, “If you don’t want to know, don’t ask.”
The US government has a variation of that in policy of, “don’t ask, don’t tell”. If you don’t want to know whether cell tower radiation is having a biological impact, stop doing the research!”
The obstinate and stubborn refusal to accept the large body of work showing clear evidence of radio frequency radiation harm by the U.S. government and the telecoms is almost unique to the United States. Of developed countries, only Japan’s RFR exposure level guidelines are set at the same recklessly high level as the United States, somewhat closely followed by Australia. Many other countries have limits that are 10 to 100 times lower than FCC limits, and/or have policies to reduce exposure near schools and homes designated as “sensitive” areas.
Countries leading the way in awareness and sensible laws and guidelines for the radiation exposure of their populace include France, Italy, India, Russia, Switzerland, Israel, Chile, Croatia, Ukraine, Kuwait, Belgium, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Greece, Belarus, Georgia, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey India, Liechtenstein, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Kuwait, Republic of Moldova, Iraq, and surprisingly even China.
France is the best example we’ve seen of a country implementing responsible and science-based safety guidelines. In 2015, they passed a national law with several requirements for reducing their peoples’ wireless radiation exposure. This included a complete Wifi ban in nursery schools (where children under 3 are cared for), a recommendation to minimize Wifi in elementary schools by turning it off when not in use, routinely enforced cell tower emission compliance testing, and the clear labeling of public Wifi hotspots. Then in 2019, they ordered that cell phone companies widely recommend the use of the speakerphone setting to reduce radiation exposure, and every phone purchased in France comes with a user warning to keep the phone far away from the belly of pregnant women and the abdomen of adolescents.
The requirements also include a vast public information campaign on safe exposure practices. The SAR rating of cell phones must be clearly indicated on the box of all cell phones being sold, as well as information pamphlets on reducing exposure included inside every box. If the buyer of a cell phone intends to allow children under 14 to use the device, they must be provided upon request with equipment that will reduce radiation exposure to the child’s head. Any advertisements for cell phones must display equipment used to reduce exposure to the head, such as hands-free kits. Any company that fails to advertise safe use is fined 75,000 Euros.
These requirements and guidelines reflect the precautionary principle that many countries have wisely begin to implement, as evidence of harm continues to accumulate.
India dropped their exposure limits to 1/10th of the previous level after their government compiled a report of the many research studies that found damage to birds and bees from cell tower radiation.
In addition to France, several other countries have implemented complete Wifi bans in nursery schools and kindergartens, including Israel, French Polynesia, Cyprus, and various municipalities throughout Europe. There is also a big movement towards Wifi bans in elementary schools throughout Europe, or at least a sensible minimization of exposure. Much of this may be in response to a Resolution passed by the European Parliament in 2011, advising governments to take all reasonable measures to reduce EMF exposure, especially with children, who are most at risk of adverse events like head tumors. It encourages schools to give preference to wired internet connections over Wifi, and to strictly regulate the use of cell phones by schoolchildren on school premises.
Spain and Italy have been especially responsive to this resolution, and 500 municipalities in Italy have even passed resolutions to halt 5G deployment until safety research has been done. Russia has its own guidelines that minimize Wifi exposure to children in schools, and their exposure limits for cell tower and cell phone radiation are just a small fraction of the United States limits. With one of the longest histories of microwave radiation research of any country, of over 100 years, it’s no wonder that Russia respects and so strictly observes the precautionary principle in this regard. Even China’s exposure limits cite the precautionary principle, and we do not tend to think of China as a low EMF country, as they were considered our main competitor in “the race to 5G”.
As you may now realize, not all countries are as resistant to acknowledging the true health harms from wireless radiation as the United States seems to be. However, that doesn’t mean we aren’t making progress. Many local municipalities are taking matters into their own hands, even when it feels like swimming upstream. New Hampshire has established a commission to study the health and environmental impact of 5G. In Maryland, the Children’s Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council has published recommendations for safer use of Wifi in schools. Berkeley, California retail stores are required to inform buyers that keeping a cell phone in a pocket or bra may expose the user to RF levels beyond the legal limits.
We can’t afford to wait for the government to start caring about our health. The truth is that the biggest change is happening at the grassroots level, from individual humans educating themselves, then sharing their knowledge with their families, friends and local officials. This type of change is the most powerful, as we are not waiting for proclaimed authorities to tell us what’s good and bad, safe and unsafe: we are taking our health and safety into our own hands.
As this cascade of awareness grows, it’s going to put unbearable pressure on the government to acknowledge these pervasive truths. Our collective ignorance in past decades, assuming that our best interests are always represented by state and national policy, is dissolving as we wake up to our own power and inner authority.

Let’s use a standard large cell tower (like a lattice or monopole tower) as an example, to learn more about how this works. The antennas on the tower each operate within a specific frequency band, often referred to as its spectrum. Each mobile carrier that leases space on a particular tower has its own antennas that operate within its own spectrum, so it won’t interfere with the transmission from other carriers. Any given spectrum is divided into separate sections for uplink and downlink transmission, to ensure that two-way communication can occur without obstruction or interference. Uplink refers to the communication path from the mobile device (such as a cell phone) to the cell tower, and downlink is the communication path from the cell tower to the mobile device. The data packets sent between a mobile device and cell tower ride on a specific carrier frequency, and the data itself is encoded onto that carrier usually by modulating the amplitude or phase of the signal in a very intricate and complex way, which “writes” the information onto the wave with exact accuracy.
When this information-carrying radio wave is picked up by a nearby antenna that’s attuned to the same frequency, the transceiver then demodulates the signal to extract the original information. The transceiver is a piece of equipment that sits next to the antenna itself, high up on the cell tower. The demodulated data is then sent down the tower through a physical cable, usually a fiber optic or coaxial copper cable, to the base station that resides at the bottom of the cell tower.
From there, the data is sent through the backhaul portion of the network. Backhaul is the wired or wireless infrastructure that connects the cell sites to the central mobile network. Most of the time, backhaul connections are wired using fiber optic cables, which are preferred for their high bandwidth and reliability, but in some cases wireless infrastructure like satellites are used instead.
As the data packet travels through the backhaul, its next stop is an aggregation point, which is where data from all the cell towers in that area pass through, to be routed further to the network core. It’s kind of like a traffic intersection near a highway, where many information streams meet in the same area to get on the highway to the big city. From there, the data packet travels to the network core.
Network cores are called different things, depending on what type of data they are responsible for handling. The predominant type of network core in the past, which is still used for voice calls, is called the mobile network switching center (MSC), and is responsible for “switching” phone calls to their final destination. For data packets used for sending texts, and processing data from internet usage on wireless devices, 4G LTE network cores involved in these processes are called Evolved Packet Cores (EPCs), and 5G ones are simply called 5G Cores.
Whichever type it is, networks cores are like the central hubs (or the brains) in a complex web of mobile communication, and they play many roles. These centers are responsible for determining the rest of the route for your data packet to reach its final destination, and sending it on its way. They are also responsible for seamlessly handing off a connection from one cell to another, if the mobile device user is traveling between zones while using data or making a call. Another role the network core plays is to facilitate communication between different mobile networks, if you’re communicating with someone who uses a different carrier. The core infrastructure is housed in buildings called data centers.
After the data packet moves through the network core, the whole process essentially reverses as it moves toward its destination, which is usually a cell tower in the most suitable location to send the information wirelessly once more, to a mobile receiving device.
This whole process occurs almost instantaneously.
Now let’s look at the various forms that cell towers can take. Some are very tall and large, and can be seen from miles away. These large towers include lattice, monopole and guyed towers, and are heavy duty, well supported structures. They provide service to a broad geographical area and are designed to handle a significant number of mobile users – this type of coverage size and capacity is referred to as a “macrocell”. Depending on the frequencies used by the antennas, and the transmitter power level, the maximum usable range can reach long distances of 10-25 miles (even up to 45 miles in some cases), but typically have a range of 1 to 3 miles.
The last tower type listed above, the stealth tower, is versatile and can support either macrocell or microcell needs, depending on its size and power level. A microcell is a smaller cell, designed to cover a more limited area. Microcells overlap with the larger macrocells, and are designed to enhance capacity and coverage in certain high density or heavily trafficked areas, especially crowded urban spaces. Stealth towers that support microcell zones are often found on lamp posts, traffic light poles, and other common city infrastructure. Microcells are a type of small cell, and are integral to the denser and higher capacity coverage of the new 5G networks.
Besides some kinds of stealth towers, most small cells do not exist in a traditional tower form. The antennas and equipment are placed on other objects, as they are highly localized to a smaller area, designed to overlap other cells to enhance coverage. Small cells in general are placed between 20 and 100 feet high, depending on the type.
Even smaller than microcells are picocells and femtocells. Like a Russian nesting doll, these smallest cells rely on the base coverage of macrocells and microcells in the area, then enhance coverage even more in areas of high need, like a single building, a floor within a building, or even a single home or office. Picocell equipment is sometimes installed outdoors on lamp posts and other objects, but is more often utilized in large indoor spaces like airports, stadiums, hospitals, hotels, universities and offices. Femtocells are used exclusively indoors in smaller spaces, mainly to enhance coverage within an end user’s home or office.
4G service was the standard almost everywhere until recently, and is estimated to run on about 80% macrocells and 20% small cells. Inversely, 5G is heavily reliant on small cells, with up to 80% of 5G data transmission occurring through small cells, and only 20% through macrocells. Currently in the United States, there are over 450,000 active small cells. 5G is expected to become the dominant technology by 2030, which would require the number of small cells to more than double, up to an unbelievable 900,000 to 1 million small cells throughout the country.
The reason that 5G is so heavily reliant on small cells is because it utilizes a much higher frequency spectrum than 4G (often simply referred to as ‘millimeter waves’), and higher frequencies can’t travel as far, so require significant infrastructure densification. They are closer to the ground (where people and their devices are), and closer to each other, often existing on every street corner in populated urban areas. You can learn more about how 5G works specifically in a previous article we wrote on the topic:
5G Explained and What It Means for Health and Humanity
Here are the coverage differences between the cell zones explained above:
Cell towers (macrocells) and microcell antennas are owned and installed by the mobile carriers that use them, or by infrastructure operators. They are quite expensive to build, the average large cell tower costing about $250,000. Picocells and femtocells are often provided upon request by mobile carriers to their customers, usually but not always for an additional fee.
The purpose of cell towers is to act as supportive infrastructure for the actual antennas that transmit the frequencies. Most types of antennas need to be placed on tower structures to give the antenna enough range to cover a large area. There are several different types of antennas you will see when you start looking more closely at the different types of cell towers described in this article.
One of the most common types of antennas used in 4G infrastructure are panel antennas. These appear as flat, white rectangles on monopole and lattice towers. They can be part of the way up the tower, all the way at the top, or more commonly both. Panel antennas transmit frequencies into certain sectors in the general direction they’re pointing, which is why you often see them installed on a triangular structure that surrounds the tower, with a few panel antennas on each of the three sides. This is so that there is antenna coverage in each sector within the zone of that tower, since each panel antenna can cover a section 120 degrees across, so with three sides there will be a full 360 degree coverage. They are most often found in urban and suburban locations, along highways and in densely populated regions.
Parabolic antennas, also called dish or circular antennas, are circular and concave like a dish. These are often located on monopole or lattice towers where panel antennas are also installed. Parabolic antennas are not involved in data transmission to and from mobile device users, but are used to transmit larger streams of data between nearby cell towers. The dish shape creates a focused beam in the direction it’s pointing. These antennas can be involved in the smaller percentage of backhaul that’s done wirelessly (most if it is ground based using fiber optic cables, as explained above), or other scenarios where a focused, high-gain, point-to-point signal is needed.
Omnidirectional antennas are thinner and less obvious, and often appear as metal rods in various formats. They are commonly seen at the top of tall guyed and lattice towers, and reach very long distances, which is useful in rural areas. Omnidirectional antennas can send and receive signals in all directions (360 degrees), hence their name. They provide broad coverage over a wide area.
As mentioned in the previous section, small cell antennas are not found on regular cell towers. Most often, they are installed on various urban infrastructure like street lights, traffic lights, buildings, and even on trees. 5G is completely reliant on small cells, and there need to be many of them placed close together to support the higher frequencies and larger bandwidth of 5G. They are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, and may blend almost seamlessly into surrounding objects. They can be box-shaped, cylindrical, or even concealed within other objects, making them invisible to the eye. Small cell antenna housing contains multiple antennas arranged in an array, supporting the MIMO technology that’s central to 5G.
There are other types of antennas that are used in special, less common circumstances, but these are the main ones you will see and interact with in your environment.
Part of becoming aware of the effects of electromagnetic fields on our bodies is learning more about the EMF sources all around us. Even those who are sensitive and reactive to EMF sources may not be educated enough to recognize a prominent source of harmful frequency fields in their environment. Being informed of our surroundings brings greater awareness and discernment into our lives, and while we cannot get away from these sources completely (and many of us don’t want to anyway), we can sensibly limit our exposure whenever possible.
This knowledge also makes it possible to ensure you are adequately protected by using an appropriate strength Blushield home device, which you can determine by factoring in your combined total of EMF exposure sources (detailed in our Blushield Product Guide). When you’re out and about, driving through the city or at the office, you may start noticing small cell equipment that you didn’t recognize before, and can make sure you’re carrying a Blushield portable with you in places that utilize small cell equipment.
With the rapid and unchecked proliferation of wireless radiation sources, increasing exponentially every year, the FDA has failed to actively assess exposure levels, develop techniques to reduce exposure, or warn the public about potential harm.
A formal Citizens’ Petition was filed in May 2023, by the non-profit organization Americans for Responsible Technology (ART) and other petitioners, demanding that they fulfill the clear requirements established for them by the U.S. Congress. ART reported that they finally received a response from the FDA last week. Their response essentially stated that after 6 months of deliberation, the FDA was unable to reach a decision about whether or not to perform their required duties.
More delay tactics.
The FDA’s refusal to continue studying wireless radiation dangers is unsurprising, considering the last time they attempted such a study (the National Toxicology Program study on the effects of wireless radiation on rats and mice) was a massive and shocking failure, which they had to sweep under the rug as quickly as possible. If the results of such a perfectly executed and thorough study were unacceptable to them, that says a lot about their underlying motives, and makes continuing to study the subject far too risky.
In the meantime, while we all wait for behemoth federal agencies to start caring about our health and well-being, 5G towers and antennas are being rapidly deployed all over the country. Local communities are feeling backed into a corner, and their only recourse has been to engage in time, money and energy-exhausting local battles, even with odds that are definitely not in their favor.
Amazingly, in some areas where community members have organized for a shared cause, there have been some recent wins, at least for now.
In Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, after learning of Verizon’s plans to install a 5G tower in a residential area, community members organized and fought back. Their website very clearly states that they aren’t against technological progress or new cell tower installations, just that they don’t want unsightly and dangerous towers placed right by their homes. This is not an extreme position, but a very reasonable perspective that most people would probably agree with, if they gave it some thought. They urged Verizon to reconsider the tower placement, and to choose an area further away from human habitation, such as an industrial area or commercial zone.
In October, the City received notice that Verizon had rescinded their tower application for the main site in question, at Shadduck Lane and 15th Street. The application is officially marked as “withdrawn”. If Verizon wanted to consider that same location in the future, they would have to reapply and start the whole process over again.
Another decision to limit the deployment of 5G antennas just happened in Stamford, Connecticut. The State of Connecticut drafted a template for local municipalities to use that outlines terms for the placement of 5G equipment on city-owned utility poles. The template would give considerable power to the telecoms to determine antenna placement location, and the city would only have control over the size and appearance of the equipment.
21 Stamford city representatives rejected the state’s template application. This number represented a clear majority, who were persuaded by research presented that implicated 5G in various health risks, including brain damage, headaches, memory loss, reproductive organ and nervous system damage, DNA damage, as well as harm to trees, birds, insects and wildlife.
City attorneys urged representatives to accept the template, fearing a lawsuit if it’s rejected. Federal law states that local governments cannot legislate against wireless radiation on the grounds of health risks.
Several city representatives were appalled that fear of lawsuits should factor into their decision making process when it comes to potential health risks for local residents.
“The threat of whether we’re going to be sued is not a winning argument when a potential health concern is involved,” City Rep. Sean Boeger said. “We can’t frame our decisions off that.”
Former Stamford resident Joseph Sandri also spoke up, pointing out that the standing court ruling demanding the FCC update its wireless exposure guidelines should give the city more power to say no to new cell antennas, even on the grounds of potential health effects.
“The FCC rules are now under remand in federal court, and the FCC still has not explained why the rules have not been updated,” Sandri told the board. “The city has the right to independently monitor wireless networks for compliance with the FCC’s ancient exposure rules, so the city should be given the opportunity to object” to telecom applications to place 5G antenna on publicly owned utility poles.
In related news, there have been increasing numbers of reports of unusual numbers of dead birds in the vicinity of 5G towers, and even on top of the towers themselves. People in neighborhoods where cell towers were installed nearby have reported a sudden decrease in the bird population in their area. These reports are coming in from all over the world. This was occurring long before 5G was rolled out, but has ramped up exponentially since then.
Arthur Firstenburg, President of Cellular Phone Task Force and the author of The Invisible Rainbow: A History of Electricity and Life, recently reported on an incident from 2019 relating to an endangered bird species in Hawaii being harmed and killed by wireless radiation.
The kiwikiu are a critically endangered bird species that live exclusively on the island of Maui. Less than 150 birds remain, and they are tiny, weighing less than one ounce each. They are considered to be an intelligent and long-lived species, so naturally, conservationists want to do whatever they can to protect and regenerate their numbers. Although they had good intentions, the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project made the mistake of placing very high frequency (VHF) radio transmitters onto harnesses on the legs of 10 kiwikiu, intending to observe their habits and activities.
This well-intended yet ill-informed decision ended very badly. Less than 3 weeks after the birds were released into the wild, with their radio transmitters attached, all were dead – except for the 3 birds that had managed to remove their own transmitters early on.
Several of the birds who failed to remove their transmitters, although previously known to be strong and healthy, became suddenly lifeless and still, dying soon afterward. One bird ferociously attacked her transmitter, biting it apart and removing it. Later that day, the staff put another transmitter on her, after which she gave up, stopped eating and became lethargic. She was found dead two days later. Another bird managed to disable his transmitter on the first day, and to remove his harness completely a month later. He was observed again, perfectly healthy, 632 days later! That’s almost two years afterward, in line with the kiwikiu’s naturally long lifespan. Getting sick and dying suddenly just doesn’t happen with this species.
Since the transmitters allowed the birds to be tracked, this ended up being an unintentionally close-up look at how immediately and badly small life forms are affected by the strong and unnatural manmade electromagnetic fields that we are all exposed to daily. They are truly the “canaries in the coal mine” of wireless radiation.
Within the range of living organisms, birds are on the smaller and more delicate side, and we are noticing their vulnerability to wireless radiation harms at an accelerated pace, compared to larger and hardier organisms. As far as humans are concerned, our children are our own “canaries”. They are considerably smaller, and still within the vulnerable stage of development, with softer skulls and bones, and actively developing brains and nervous systems. Since they are mentally and emotionally immature, they are also less able to regulate and control their interaction with addictive stimulus, and are also much more vulnerable to the harmful effects of such stimulus.
The ubiquitous presence of wireless radiation sources is bombarding the formative years of today’s children. The current generation of children is dealing with a serious challenge never before experienced by humanity. We need to think deeply and act wisely regarding the interconnected issues of both wireless radiation’s effects on children’s health, as well as the addictive element inherent to screens, the digital world, and how that in itself is affecting their brain development and ability to function.
Thousands of medical, scientific and legal professionals around the world have created The International Declaration on the Rights of Children in the Digital Age. It is designed to bring awareness and accountability to the governments of the world, educating them on their responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of the humans that will become all of our future.
The Declaration addresses three separate and interconnected concerns: screen time addiction (and its well-documented harmful effects), involuntary exposure to non-ionizing radiation, and commercial exploitation (the harvesting and monetization of private personal information).
It then outlines several principles that can be implemented by governments to create a healthier environment for our growing children. These include creating research-backed guidelines for safe exposure levels to non-ionizing radiation sources, incentivizing engineering solutions to reduce exposure and protect health, including more vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women. It urges school administrators to create safe learning environments with minimal exposure to non-ionizing radiation, as well as educating physicians and health care providers on behavioral and physical problems associated with screen time and non-ionizing radiation harm. It also encourages broad public education campaigns on the unique health risks to children of constant exposure to addictive and harmful platforms and potentially dangerous levels of radiation, so that parents have the option of informed consent regarding the presence of these influences in the lives of their children.
The burden of proof of safety must shift to the manufacturers and purveyors of non-ionizing radiation emitting devices.

The International Declaration on the Rights of Children in the Digital Age
As parents, it’s easy to get swept up in the trends of our time, as our own busy lives tempt us to turn our kids over to electronics as a convenient babysitter. Although most of us want our children to have technological skills, since we can’t deny it’s big part of our modern world, we need to find ways to keep it in balance with hands-on learning activities, close interaction with caregivers, and frequent exposure to the natural world. This may feel like a juggling act, and sometimes even an uphill battle, but if we work together towards increasing education and awareness, it may soon be easier for our children to have the wholesome childhood they deserve.
Among EHS (electrohypersensitivity) sufferers, tinnitus is one of the most commonly reported symptoms. Various population groups have been studied, and those who reported suffering from EHS had a considerably higher incidence of tinnitus (about 50%, versus only 17% of those without EHS). It seems that in EHS individuals, their nervous systems are more sensitive than most, and a sensitive system may pick up the signals from normally inaudible frequencies and interpret them as something audible to that individual. Those with sensitive nervous systems also generally have higher cortisol levels (autonomic nervous system hyperexcitability) and decreased adaptive abilities, so react more strongly to many kinds of environmental stimulus, compared to most people.
A study review that examined 165 clinically relevant studies relating to tinnitus and electromagnetic fields found evidence of a causal link between the two, including increased tinnitus incidence from talking on a cell phone regularly for more than 4 years, as well as an increase in symptoms in the preferred ear of the cell phone user, compared to the opposite ear. The study authors advise cautionary and safe use of cell phones, as there is enough reason to suspect a link between EMFs and tinnitus, as well as more serious health issues.
Links have also been established between EMFs and hearing loss. This study found significant hearing loss in the preferred ear of cell phone users, compared to the ear that was rarely or never directly exposed to the cell phone. Another study on rats showed neuronal degeneration in the auditory system from exposure to cell phone radiation.
Several studies have linked cell phone use with the growth of acoustic neuromas, which are normally benign and slow growing tumors on the nerve of the inner ear. These growths could in themselves be a cause of both tinnitus and hearing loss, and are definitively linked to electromagnetic field exposure.
With the link between electromagnetic fields, tinnitus and hearing loss fairly well established, many people are looking for EMF protection that will reduce or eliminate their symptoms.
We have gotten several reports of a reduction or elimination of tinnitus symptoms from using a Blushield device, especially from those using the C1 Ultimate Cube home model. Improvements in other areas like sleep, mood, energy levels and overall well-being from using Blushield are often felt right away or after only a few weeks of use, but it’s important to remember that some conditions are much more deeply rooted, and took many years to develop in the first place. Conditions like tinnitus and hearing loss should be perceived as a type of injury, from long term or extreme exposure to some kind of external stressor. When it comes to healing injuries that were long in the making, the body’s healing process doesn’t have an “on/off switch” where a significant chronic condition is suddenly or quickly resolved. Much more realistically, healing will occur over such a long and gradual period of time that someone may not even realize that it’s happening at all, until months down the road when one day they realize their symptoms are considerably lessened or gone completely. However, some people’s bodies are more responsive and adaptable, and/or their tinnitus and hearing loss was of the more mild and recently developed type, so they may experience positive results quickly. Of course, we can’t guarantee that Blushield will help your tinnitus or hearing loss, since there are so many factors that may affect your individual condition.
Along with using an appropriate strength Blushield device for your overall EMF exposure, there are other ways you can support your body to heal damage to the auditory nerves and the brain, potentially reducing or eliminating symptoms of tinnitus, and even restoring hearing to some extent. Ensuring adequate nutrition, especially rich sources of zinc, magnesium and B vitamins, can give your body what it needs to heal. Herbs like gingko biloba and ginseng may be effective at improving circulation in that area, lessening symptoms and accelerating the healing process, as well as neutralizing oxidative stress due to their natural antioxidant and polyphenol content.
Nourishing the kidney system of the body, in accordance with TCM principles, can replenish the deep reserves of the body and increase vitality, which will often improve ear related issues like tinnitus and hearing loss. High quality herbal formulas that are focused on nourishing the kidney yin can be very helpful. Our top recommendations are the He Shou Wu Formula and Fire/Water Formula created by Shen Blossom, both of which contain expertly crafted blends of the highest quality herbs. Acupuncture can also increase blood and qi/chi flow to the head and ears, supporting the healing process.
Reducing exposure to triggers is also important, especially as you’re healing. This includes reducing EMF exposure by cultivating safe habits when using radiation emitting devices. Using your devices less often, and keeping them further away from you when you do use them, can go a long way. This article we wrote gives more specific ideas on how to sensibly reduce your exposure with some simple habit changes.
Interestingly, various kinds of sound therapy are some of the most effective treatments for tinnitus. Although the audible frequencies we can hear are technically mechanical waves, not electromagnetic waves, they are still frequencies. The fact that frequencies can be used to treat this issue warrants further consideration of the potential effects of electromagnetic frequencies on brain/nerve/ear disorders like tinnitus and hearing loss, as well as the potential therapeutic effect of a scalar frequency generator like Blushield.
The most common conventional treatment for both hearing loss and tinnitus is the use of hearing aids. They are not intended to heal either condition, but to provide a way of coping with the conditions, which mainstream consensus deems incurable. If you or someone you know is in a more advanced stage of hearing loss or tinnitus, hearing aids may be necessary for basic daily life functions. If you need hearing aids to stay safe and functional on a daily basis, and to enjoy life, are there any options to lower your EMF exposure from these radiation emitting devices?
Yes! While you cannot eliminate EMF exposure entirely if you’re using hearing aids, there are methods to considerably reduce it.
The first hearing aids were invented in the late 1800s, were analog in function, and consisted of a tiny microphone, an amplifier (to amplify the external sounds), and a speaker to direct the sounds into the ear or the wearer. Since analog amplification will distort sound to some extent, this method was not able to perfectly reproduce external sounds. In 1990, the invention of the digital hearing aid solved this problem, as the microphone delivers the sounds to a microchip, which then digitally reproduces the sound as a much more authentic rendition of the original source. The EMF exposure from these types of hearing aids is negligible, and only minimally harmful.
This all changed around 2010, when wireless connectivity capabilities were added to digital hearing aids. This allowed the hearing aids to communicate with each other, and to connect directly with your cell phone, computer and TV, so you can answer calls and listen to music straight from the hearing aid. These enhanced capabilities were so popular that almost all modern hearing aids now offer wireless connectivity. Unfortunately, this exposes the wearer to radio-frequency radiation right inside of the ears and dangerously close to the brain.
Short range wireless connectivity is achieved using near-field magnetic induction that operates within the 3 to 11MHz (megahertz) range, and allows the two hearing aids to be able to communicate with each other. Long range connectivity operates in the Bluetooth frequency range of 2.4 to 2.45GHz (gigahertz), and allows hearing aids to connect to other devices like your cell phone and computer. Although both of these connectivity options increase convenience and improve user experience in various ways, neither are necessary for the hearing aids to function in a basic sense, and both magnetic and radio-frequency fields so close to the brain can cause health issues.
The companies claim that the radiation level is extremely low, and well within the SAR limits for wireless radiation exposure, but these FCC regulations have considerable flaws. SAR stands for Specific Absorption Rate, and refers to the amount of EMF absorbed by the body resulting from proximity to a specific radiation source. SAR limits are only based on the thermal (heating) effects of RF exposure, even though non-thermal levels of EMFs have been consistently shown to have harmful effects on health. Another concern is that hearing aids will subject you to these EMFs consistently, as most people wear them for 16 hours per day. Long term, daily exposure, even at very low levels of power, can be considerably more harmful than short term or sporadic exposure.
If you need to use hearing aids and you’re concerned about EMF exposure, there is usually a way to turn off wireless connectivity, depending on the device. Some hearing aids do not allow it to be switched off, but most probably do, or at least allow the device to be switched to airplane mode. If you have moderate to severe hearing loss or tinnitus, you likely have prescription hearing aids. If it’s not easy for you to figure out how to turn off the wireless capability of your hearing aids, you can visit the healthcare provider who prescribed them and see if they can do it for you. If you have mild to moderate hearing difficulties, you may be able to purchase generic hearing aids online or OTC (over the counter), and you can specifically select a brand that does not include wireless connectivity, or allows it to be turned off.
If you absolutely need some aspect of the wireless functionality provided by your hearing aids, you can at least turn off Bluetooth whenever you don’t need it, by switching it off from your phone and any other device the hearing aids are coupled with. That way, at least there will be less radio-frequency activity going back and forth between the devices.
If you have moderate to severe hearing loss or tinnitus, you may decide that for you, hearing aids are in the category of “EMF exposure that you can’t control”, which is what Blushield is for. We always recommend minimizing EMF sources as much as possible, practical or desirable, and then making sure you have the appropriate strength home and portable Blushield devices to protect you from the inevitable exposures in your life.
Feeling stressed over every little bit of EMF exposure can do more harm than good, as it’s truly impossible to get away from all of it! The feeling of well being that comes from knowing you’re protected from these inevitable exposures will ensure that your mental health is protected just as much as your physical health.
Currently we cannot publish the actual manuscript of the study because it is under review by a prominent medical journal. We will post a link to the full study manuscript right here once the journal has reviewed it.
Although we aren't able to share the actual manuscript yet, it is complete, and we are allowed to share our interpretation of the results. Once you are able to read through the paper yourself, you may be wondering what some of the terms mean, and want more explanation of the significance of each finding.
Our study paper was written by Christopher D’Adamo, PhD, an epidemiologist who has served as Principal Investigator on a wide variety of observational and interventional studies of nutrition and other healthy lifestyle modalities, and his findings have been published in several well-known peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals, and publicized through several popular media outlets.
The study co-authors include the researchers involved in compiling and interpreting the data: researchers from TruDiagnostic (the epigenetic data analysis company that provided the genome-wide DNA methylation assessment), doctors Helen Messier and DeAunne Denmark, who organized the study, and Tom Blue, who got the ball rolling initially.
In the study paper, it is stated: “Preliminary data from in vitro and agricultural animal studies suggest changes in biomarkers of health and functional status may be detectable after a period of continuous BluShield device usage.”
This refers to our prior Blushield studies from several years ago, the grassroots-style testing where we initially found impressive positive results on animals and humans, including live blood cell analysis, human urine analysis, as well as health improvements in chickens and cows.
We knew it was time for a more thorough study on a greater number of human health markers, using a newer, more powerful Blushield device, and we are so excited that our study has been completed.
So, what improvements were found in this independent review board certified pilot study?
The CNS Vital Signs test is a full neurocognitive assessment that each participant did once before introducing the Blushield device, then again every 4 weeks of the 12-week study, for a total of 4 times. The test records performance in areas of cognitive function, including memory, executive function and processing speed. Statistically significant positive results were found in the areas of composite memory, cognitive flexibility, executive function, and processing speed. There were several areas where no changes were noted (visual memory and simple and complex attention), but the areas of positive change are quite notable.
Electromagnetic field exposure has been definitively linked to impairments in cognitive function, and the mechanism of harm theorized as overactivation of the voltage-gated calcium channels, as described in our previous article on the subject:
Memory, Learning & Attention Impairment From EMF Exposure
Could our positive results on cognitive function be linked to the voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs)? The study paper states this is a valid hypothesis that warrants further exploration. The reason it is believed there may be a link is because in the genome-wide DNA methylation assessment, they were able to identify a key VGCC gene (CACNA1G) that was hypermethylated, indicating a likely under-expression of that gene – basically, a quieting of the voltage-gated calcium channels that are chronically overactive and overstimulated in the constant presence of modern levels of EMFs. Hypermethylation is most often associated with a downregulation of the expression of a gene, placing it into a “locked” state, whereas hypomethylation usually refers to active expression and transcription of a gene.
204 total CpG sites were found to be differentially methylated between the before and after measurements, and 94% of those genes were hypermethylated. A considerable number of these sites were connected with the ATP-sensitive potassium channels, which are known to be influenced by EMFs. Besides the one key VGCC gene that was hypermethylated at a level of statistical significance, 4 other VGCC-related genes were very near the threshold of significance.
CpG is short for Cytosine-phosphate-Guanine, which is the most common methylation pathway in the DNA. DNA methylation is an incredibly important epigenetic health marker. Epigenetics refer to the study of genes activating or silencing (commonly through methylation) in response to changing environmental factors, and can explain why family members (even identical twins) with close to or exactly the same genome can experience widely different health outcomes. It calls upon the “nature versus nurture” question, where “nature” is the static state of the genome or genetics you were born with, and “nurture” refers to the various outside influences you have encountered throughout your life that actually switch various genes on and off, dynamically altering the trajectory of your health.
Another fascinating purpose of DNA methylation is to silence intragenomic parasites. It’s hard to believe, but at least 35% of our genome is made up of parasite DNA. These parasites are called transposons, and include endogenous retroviruses that have inserted themselves into human DNA over a very long period of time, long before each of our lifetimes. DNA methylation, when it functions optimally, should keep this parasitic DNA in a quiet, dormant state for our entire lives. When environmental influences, like toxic heavy metals and electromagnetic fields, disrupt our bodies’ ability to methylate properly, dormant retroviruses can become active, often wreaking havoc throughout our entire bodies.
All study participants wore an Oura Ring device throughout the entire study duration, from the pre-Blushield “before” period, and during the 12 weeks of Blushield use. This wearable health tracking device continuously records a variety of relevant and important health markers, making it easy to track the effects of lifestyle changes in real time.
The device tracks the full sleep cycle of its wearer, and provides detailed data on the number of minutes of deep sleep, REM sleep, light sleep and awake time. It also records heart rate variability (HRV) on an ongoing basis, which is a key marker of vitality, resilience and adaptability. “Variability” refers to our heart’s ability to respond immediately to the demands of our environment, by speeding up or slowing down the heart rate as needed. The body’s ease in changing the speed of the heart instantaneously is strongly linked to our overall health and vitality.
You can learn more about the complex nuances of heart rate variability in this article we wrote:
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) as an Advanced Biomarker is Affected by EMFs
Our study participants saw impressive improvements in their heart rate variability, average and lowest resting heart rate, body temperature, and deep sleep, all reaching statistical significance. Average deep sleep time increased by 9 minutes, from 90 minutes before to 99 minutes after. There was also an increased average awake time (by 5 minutes), which in some instances wouldn’t be desirable, but it’s a logical assumption that if you’re getting 9 extra minutes of deep sleep (the most restorative type of sleep) per night, then you may not need quite as much sleep overall.
EMF exposure has been shown to be linked to elevated blood glucose, and in some cases, even prediabetes and diabetes. This is thought to be related to the voltage-gated calcium channels, which our previous article on blood glucose and insulin elaborates on:
Blood Glucose & Insulin Negatively Affected By EMFs
All of the participants had glucose levels within a healthy range at the beginning of the study, and we still found a statistically significant reduction in blood glucose during the study. The results may have been even more dramatic if diabetics and prediabetics had been included in the study, and is a topic of particular interest for a potential future study.
Glucose and insulin are also strongly affected by the ATP-sensitive potassium channels, so it’s possible that the positive effects on blood glucose may be linked to the hypermethylated ATP-sensitive potassium channel complex that our study recorded, as well as the VGCCs.
The study also found an increase in monocytes and a decrease in natural killer cells (NK cells), both within a healthy range. Monocytes remain in their basic form in the bloodstream and organs when there are no active threats, but as soon as a threat is perceived, they differentiate into either macrophages or dendritic cells. However, NK cells remain in their original form while fighting infection. When monocytes differentiate into dendritic cells, this then alerts other cells (including NK cells) of the presence of an imminent threat.
There is a hypothesis that electromagnetic field exposure triggers the immune system, as our bodies perceive the foreign frequency patterns as invaders it needs to attack and defeat. Since there is nothing physically present to attack and destroy, this can result in a chronically elevated immune response, which will eventually deplete the immune system of its power and steal vital resources from other essential processes in the body. Our long-held theory, based on the results of our previous studies, is that being in the influence of a Blushield gives the body a healthy field to preferentially resonate with, calming and subduing the futile immune response against the perceived invasion of the harmful fields.
An increase in circulating monocytes could indicate that they are now “ready and waiting” in their natural form, and not currently in the process of fighting infection by differentiating into other forms. A decrease in natural killer cells could signify the immune system calming down from a previously chronically overactive state, as the monocytes are not actively signaling a threat that would tell the NK cells to get to work. More targeted and larger scale studies will be needed to confirm this hypothesis.
Also, each participant was given a self-reported health questionnaire at various times throughout the study period, and there was a statistically significant improvement in the participants’ subjective experience of overall health and well-being.
To fully understand the study paper (once it's available publicly), it is helpful to understand P-values, as they are the calculations used in clinical studies that determine whether a result is statistically significant, or more likely to be random and insignificant.
P-value stands for probability value, and is directly connected to a concept called the “null hypothesis”. This refers to the potential that exists in every scientific study that the intervention (the device, drug, or other influence) being studied is not having any positive or negative effect on the participants, and therefore the results found are due to random chance. To achieve statistically significant positive results, you want the p-value to be as low as possible. The lower the value, the less likely the results are due to random chance, and if it’s low enough, that means it’s almost certain that the study intervention is truly affecting the study subject. Even when the value is extremely low, there’s always still a tiny possibility that it’s due to chance, which is why the number can never reach zero.
Depending on the parameter being studied, the significance threshold of the p-value is set at a certain number. P<0.05 is a common one, which most of our study parameters used. 0.05 means 5%, so P<0.05 means “the probability that this result is due to random chance is less than 5%”. Any results with a lower number than that threshold will be considered statistically significant.
So if you see a study result with a p-value of p=0.01, that means there is only a 1% chance that the result was achieved randomly, and a 99% chance that the intervention (in our case, the Blushield device) directly affected the results, as we saw in our study in the area of resting heart rate. Some of our other results got even lower p-values like p=0.0007 (our cognitive flexibility result), which means there was only a tiny fraction of a percent chance of the result being random.
Later in the study paper, there is a discussion of confounding factors. This refers to uncontrollable factors in the study design that may have influenced the results, which are essential to consider in any study that lacks a control group. Some confounding factors are external influences that occur during daily life, and in this case, confounding factors may include changes in physical activity or diet due to changes in the season. Another factor to consider is a lack of diversity in the health status, education level and race of the test subjects. All study subjects self-reported as relatively healthy, whereas if more chronic illness sufferers had been studied, there may have been even more room for improvement from baseline.
Observing changes at the DNA level is a very complex process, as I’m sure you can imagine. Those performing the measurements must have specific and extensive training, and they have to create a model to factor in all the variables (age, sex, immune markers, and an infinite number of other potential variables), so that the result achieved is as accurate as possible. The theoretical goal is to set up a model that shows pure cause and effect, where variables applicable to this particular study group (called covariates) are factored into the model in a “perfect fit”. Pure cause and effect, in our case, would be results that measure exactly how Blushield use affected methylation of the CpG sites, with the model already having been adjusted to erase the impact of the covariates on the results.
There are ways for them to assess the accuracy of the model used in finding the most pure results, although it’s impossible to make a perfect fit. The perfect score is a “1” – anything less than 1 means there are too many covariates and the results aren’t as significant as they would be in a pure model. A number higher than 1 means there are not enough covariates, and the results are more significant than they should be. Our study’s model was mapped on something called a Q-Q plot, which gave us a score of 1.05. This score is almost perfect, and we were told that this is not easy to get.
This means that the methylation results we saw on the CpG sites, including the voltage-gated calcium channel genes, were almost as pure and accurate as they possibly could have been.

This study was a long time in the making, involving extraordinary levels of hard work and patience. Almost daily here at Blushield, we hear reports directly from customers (and the reviews they post voluntarily on our website) that these devices have affected their lives in positive ways, and some even call them life-changing. Honest reports from customers are helpful for informing new potential customers of what others have experienced, to clarify their decision to invest in our EMF protection devices.
Now, with our first independent review board certified clinical study results under our belt, customers can be even more fully informed of the potential benefits this technology may have on their lives. Although it was a fairly small-scale pilot study, in some ways this study is actually groundbreaking, as we are the first EMF protection company that we’re aware of to test the effects of our devices on the voltage-gated calcium channel genes, and find notable improvements. This is something we will certainly be testing more extensively in future, larger scale studies.
The study paper concludes that Blushield devices appear to be feasible, safe, and associated with improvements in cognitive function, sleep, heart rate variability, voltage-gated ion channel gene normalization, blood glucose, immune response, and overall self-reported health among relatively healthy adults. It also emphasizes that the devices “appear to be a reasonable component of a comprehensive EMF mitigation strategy to minimize RF exposure”, which is always how we encourage people to use our devices.
You are welcome to share this with anyone in your life who is concerned about the harmful effects of EMFs, and is looking for sound and researched-backed solutions.

Heart rate variability measurements record each beat of our heart, and the milliseconds that elapse between each heartbeat. Contrary to a common assumption, our heart should NOT beat like a metronome, at the exact same intervals all the time, if we are in optimal health. A healthy heart actually beats in a highly variable pattern, as our body responds promptly to a massive number of internal and external cues on a moment-to-moment basis. The ability of our heart to easily change its pace to adapt to these cues signifies resilience, adaptability and deep energy reserves.
Even though the pacemaker of our heart (the sinoatrial node) is programmed to keep our heart beating at a consistent pace, another bodily system directly modulates (slows down or speeds up) this otherwise steady rhythm: the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is a component of our peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary processes in the body, including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion and arousal. It continually receives information from our body and environment, and responds by either stimulating or inhibiting various bodily processes.
The ANS consists of sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. The sympathetic nervous system, popularly known as the “fight or flight” state, is triggered anytime our body perceives a threat in our environment. The intensity of the response exactly correlates to the severity of the perceived threat. The sympathetic nervous system increases our heart rate, constricts blood vessels, dilates our pupils and airways, stimulates sweat production and glucose utilization, and inhibits salivation and digestion (and turns off the appetite).
The parasympathetic nervous system, known as the “rest and digest” (and heal) state, does the exact opposite: it increases feelings of relaxation and well-being, slows breathing and heart rate, and stimulates normal digestive processes. The body defaults to a parasympathetic state when it perceives that it’s in a safe and secure environment, and resumes all normal and necessary bodily maintenance functions.
The nerves that control the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are linked directly to the pacemaker of the heart, and will automatically speed up or slow down the heart rate to a small or large degree as needed to match the situation at hand.
It may be easy to oversimplify this and conclude that anything that triggers the SNS (sympathetic nervous system) is bad for our health, and anything that triggers the PSNS (parasympathetic nervous system) is good for our health, but this is not really true.
We know that short term exposure to certain types of stressors is actually good for our health, as long as it’s not in excess of what our body can effectively recover from. Exercise is a great example, as it’s a type of stress that increases our resilience and abilities by stimulating the production of additional muscle tissue. When a load is put on the muscles that the musculature is unable to bear easily, the body perceives this as a need to build additional functional mass for the next time it encounters a similar challenge. Consistently challenging the body with this type of stress actually creates micro tears in the muscle tissue, but as long as the challenge is followed by adequate rest and nutrition, the muscles are rebuilt with more strength and density. Short term, controlled exposure to certain types of stress is called hormesis, and when approached intelligently, results in considerably more resiliency and overall health.
Coming back around to the topic of heart rate variability, this is exactly why we want these variations in our heart rate over time. As we encounter a variety of stressors over the course of days, months and years, the body will always do its best to react quickly to the source of stress, and then recover fully, if given the opportunity. A quick, appropriate reaction to stress will often register an immediate increase in our heart rate, and once the stress has passed, a healthy nervous system should recover quickly, indicated by a natural slowing of the heart rate close to resting levels. In a less resilient system, the variability will not be as wide, as the system is not very adaptable, and will not be able to respond adequately to either a stressful or restful situation.
Heart rate variability is usually measured by wearable devices that monitor and track your heart rate over time. This may be a chest strap, a smart watch, or even your phone camera, but potentially the best and most convenient device for this purpose is a ring tracker like the popular Oura Ring. It records all the biomarkers listed at the beginning of this article, and whenever you want to see the recorded data, it can be transmitted to a connected app on your phone. You can even keep the device on “airplane mode”, so it won’t be transmitting data via Bluetooth while you’re wearing it (which would increase your EMF exposure), but will still collect and store data that can be accessed as desired.
Heart rate variability is usually measured by a calculation called RMSSD, which stands for “root mean square of successive differences”. It measures the time difference of each successive heartbeat in real-time, and is very effective for transforming lists of numbers into valuable health data.
Usually, heart rate variability and heart rate are inversely correlated: a lower heart rate, since there is more time for wider variations between beats, supports a higher HRV score; whereas a higher heart rate (with less time for variation between beats) leads to a lower HRV score. Any lifestyle factor that improves your heart rate variability will almost always also lower your average resting heart rate. This means that most of the time, increased parasympathetic activity will increase the variance in your heart rate, improving your HRV score. Past a certain point, however, if parasympathetic activity dominates for too long (with very low sympathetic activity), the body and heartbeat will get “lazy” and no longer vary that much, actually decreasing HRV. This is why you can’t get a healthier heart and nervous system by relaxing all the time, and avoiding all sources of stress. Our bodies do thrive on appropriate levels of healthy stressors, balanced by adequate recovery time.
When you’re observing your heart rate variability score over time, you want to see it generally trending towards higher numbers. This doesn’t mean that occasional low numbers are bad, as that may indicate the body reacting appropriately to a short term stressor like vigorous exercise or a challenge at work. Likewise, if you see an abnormally high HRV score (compared to your average), it could also indicate the body attempting to recover from extreme stress, like an accident or very intense, prolonged physical exertion. As you can see, it isn’t a simple metric, as the body is incredibly complex and intelligent in its responses.
As all bodies are different, depending on genetic makeup, age, sex, hormones, illness, emotional state, and lifestyle factors, you can’t really compare your HRV score with anyone else’s. Average “normal” HRV scores vary between 20 to 200 milliseconds, but your personal range will be much smaller. The best way to use this information is to track your own HRV for a period of time, and get to know what’s a normal range for you. Then you can begin to discern what factors affect your score positively or negatively. Some factors known to affect HRV are sleep quality, stress levels, alcohol, stimulants, diet and hydration. You can improve your heart rate variability gradually, over time, by making better lifestyle choices and engaging in controlled forms of healthy stress (like exercise and cold exposure) to increase your resilience. Those who never train or purposely challenge themselves often have lower HRV scores, as the body has not learned resiliency.
Our body’s heart rate variability is extremely sensitive, and can pick up subtle changes in the environment that are often imperceptible to our senses. There are quite a few studies on the effects of commonly encountered types of electromagnetic fields on heart rate variability in humans and animals. Almost all the studies we have seen show statistically significant changes in heart rate variability, but interestingly, the results seem mixed: some studies show a decrease in HRV, and some actually show an increase. Why isn’t it just one or the other? This is very likely due to the complex adaptive mechanisms of the body, and the short term exposure durations of these studies (of the studies that state the duration of exposure, it was only between 15 and 150 minutes).
Due to hormetic effects (hormesis is explained earlier in this article), acute exposure may have a different effect than chronic exposure to the same stimulus, and sometimes even the opposite effect, especially on a complex biomarker like heart rate variability. If the body has enough internal resources available, the stressor may cause increased heart rate variation as the body attempts to adapt in the initial stages of exposure. If the stressor is continued for a longer period of time, the body’s resources may become exhausted, and the initial HRV increase will lead to an eventual decrease. We would like to see longer term studies on the effects of EMFs on heart rate variability (days, weeks or months), to see how the stats change over time.
All that said, the big takeaway from even these short term duration exposure studies is that the body immediately responded to this invisible, imperceptible stimulus. If EMF levels from modern devices were too low to affect biology, as claimed by the telecom industry, there would be no effect at all, one way or the other! The current body of science on EMFs and HRV is very similar to the neurocognitive studies that we detailed in this article, where the body’s complex adaptive responses sometimes demonstrated a stimulation response, and at other times an inhibitory response, but whenever the duration of exposure was continued, the biological systems tested would eventually lose resilience and show negative effects from EMF exposure.
Over time, and with consistent use, effective EMF protection devices and methods should improve your overall HRV scores. Many of our customers who own Blushield devices also use an Oura Ring, making it a convenient way of documenting the more subtle effects of using our technology to protect yourself from harmful EMFs.
For those who are curious, we encourage you to keep track of your heart rate variability trends, average resting heart rate, and sleep stats using a health tracking device like the Oura. It’s ideal to get your baseline stats before you begin using a Blushield, and then take note of the changes you see after you start using it. Be sure your personal study duration is of a long enough period – at least a few weeks, or ideally a few months – to reflect accurate trends and rule out other factors.
Geobiology (“earth life”) or geomancy (derived from Greek, meaning “study of earth energy”) has its roots in the ancient cultures of the Chinese, Incan and Celtic peoples, among others. However, the term geopathy (meaning earth pathology) was coined in the 1930s by George Lakhovsky, who suggested that geopathic stress can cause the body to vibrate at much higher frequencies than what is normal and healthy, putting significant stress on the immune system. Over time, this can result in immune exhaustion and dysfunction, making one much more susceptible to viruses, bacteria, parasites, and unchecked abnormal cell growth.
Why do certain spots on the Earth negatively effect our health in this way? A large part of this phenomenon is thought to be connected to underground waterways that have become obstructed or traumatized in some way, usually due to harmful human activity. These are referred to as “black streams”. Alterations to the flow of subterranean streams can be caused by cutting deeply into the earth to build highways, railways and tunnels, quarries and mines, and building foundations with steel footings. It can also be caused by the presence of heavy industry sites, power stations, steel pilings (buildings heavily reinforced with long steel poles and walls), and even old battlegrounds and historical sites that involved trauma to the earth and/or humans.
If the Earth is viewed as a living body, you may be able to see how any of the above activities could result in a type of energetic trauma that could alter the quality of the natural electromagnetic field. This can cause the Qi, or energy, flow to stagnate in a certain area, which will change the frequency emanation at that point on the Earth.
The base natural frequency range we constantly bathe in as living organisms on the surface of the earth is centered around the Schumann range of 7.8-8.2 hertz, which is close to the alpha waves our brains produce when we’re in a calm and relaxed state. However, zones of strong geopathic stress can create emanations anywhere up to a consistent 250 hertz! These higher frequencies can be beneficial when encountered periodically, as they are in nature, but this should not be the base frequency of where we live. The fastest frequencies our own brains produce (when we’re intensely focused on solving a problem), known as gamma waves, usually only reach around 100 hertz max!
The health of humans and all life forms that inhabit the Earth is dependent upon being constantly bathed in the healthy emanation of the Earth’s electromagnetic field. If this field is distorted and becomes sickly, the emanation that rises up from the ground in that area can cause sickness in a living organism that spends a lot of time in that spot. This is especially the case if a person is regularly sleeping in a geopathic stress zone, since these unhealthy emanations are thought to be stronger at night, and also because we spend so much of our lives sleeping.
Even at this time, with all of our advanced modern scientific instruments, the ancient practice of dowsing is still thought to be the most reliable way to locate underground streams and geopathic stress zones. Dowsing is done using simple instruments (like a forked stick or a pair of L-shaped rods), and although the instruments have no power in themselves, they are designed to amplify the extremely subtle bodily responses of a good dowser that indicate a change in the subterranean landscape, so the change can be noticed and verified. Dowsers are regularly hired to locate the best areas to dig a well on a property, but a lesser known use for their skills is to locate underground black streams that may be negatively affecting the health of a resident.
In 1929, German dowser Baron Gustav von Pohl was asked to dowse a small town in Bavaria that had exceptionally high rates of cancer. Without being given any pertinent information about the town or the health of the residents in various parts of the town, he drew a map of all the geopathic stress lines he could locate through dowsing. Afterward, a doctor produced information on all the cancer patients, and the map was overlaid onto the living spaces (and especially the bed locations) of all the residents who had died of cancer. To everyone’s amazement, 100% of those who died from cancer had slept for at least some time over geopathic stress lines!
Baron von Pohl then investigated another town with a lower cancer incidence, and once again found a 100% correlation between cancer cases and geopathic stress locations. He then returned to the original town, where 11 more people had since died of cancer, and found that all of them had also slept on geopathic stress zones.
At that time (around 1930), von Pohl estimated that about 2.5% (or 1/40th) of the Earth’s surface consisted of geopathic stress zones. Now in 2023, with all of the additional Earth disturbance that has been done in the 93 years since, who knows what percentage of stress zones we are dealing with now!
It’s important to note that underground streams aren’t inherently an unhealthy influence, and if they are flowing smoothly and without obstructions, they are referred to as “white streams”. They only become black streams when some kind of trauma has occurred nearby or across where that stream flows. Usually this is due to manmade causes and events, but sometimes the innate natural topography can obstruct a stream, particularly underground concentrations of iron ore, or geological fault lines.
Although black streams (stagnant or polluted underground waterways) are said to be the cause of most geopathic stress, there are other earthly attributes and phenomena that may cause magnetic field abnormalities that could negatively effect human health, as well.
Geological fault lines are fractures, or fracture zones, between two areas of rock that allow each section or plate to move independent of the other. Areas of the Earth with a lot of geological faults will have more earthquakes than other places. The Western US (coastal and interior mountain ranges) and the Rocky Mountains contain the highest concentration of fault lines in the United States, with other fault areas showing up around the Gulf coast, small sections of the Atlantic coast and around the Mississippi river basin. The movement of the plates on either side of a fault line can disturb underground waterways and caverns, distorting the Earth’s electromagnetic field in that location, which can be a cause of geopathic stress. The United States Geological Survey website has a very interesting map of fault lines and fault areas in the U.S.
Ley lines (so named by the Celtic peoples) are larger, stronger pathways of energy, often correlated with large, wide underground waterways. They are more rare than underground streams, but are still found all over the world, and ley line areas were considered sacred by all ancient cultures, due to the high “spiritual” energy of these zones. A large number of sacred structures, temples, ceremonial sites, palaces and cathedrals, as well as the processional routes to these places, have been constructed upon ley lines.
The Chinese called them “veins of the Dragon”, and the ancient Incas left evidence of a similar system they called the ‘seques’ which connected the center of their empire in Cuzco to the four corners, and they invested a large amount of time and energy into caring for and maintaining these sacred pathways. Likewise, in Europe, most of the ancient temples and holy sites, as well as Christian churches up to the 18th century, have been sited on ley lines. The sites of Avalon in England and the temples of Delphos in Greece are said to be connected by a ley line.
However, these high energy zones are usually not considered suitable for living spaces, and homes constructed on these lines can be a site of various disturbances, and are considered a type of geopathic stress. This is especially the case at points where two ley lines cross, which are thought of as very potent energy zones, too strong for daily living.
One more potential source of geopathic stress are areas along the geomagnetic grids where the grid lines cross black streams or ley lines. These grids mark pathways where the Earth’s magnetic field is stronger, and are alternately known as Hartmann lines, Curry lines and by other names. The grid lines are usually considered mostly neutral in their effect on living organisms, except where these stronger magnetic fields cross areas of disturbance, which potentiates the distortion effect and amplifies negative symptoms. Besides changing the strength of the magnetic field in those areas, grid lines can alter the electrical conductivity of the ground, increase the concentration of positive ions, and sometimes even increase gamma radiation. These grid lines are considered to be 6-10 inches wide, and occur approximately every 4-7 feet, throughout the world. Areas where two grid lines cross may also be considered stress zones under certain circumstances.
Geopathic stress zones can also be areas where radon gas (a type of ionizing alpha radiation) is emitted at higher levels, which has many deleterious health effects.
Although the modern, materialistic scientific community is often dismissive of the existence of geopathic stress, this topic has been surprisingly well studied over the past century. Various symptoms, disorders and serious diseases have been linked to the effects of geopathic stress. These include insomnia, nightmares, infertility, miscarriage, migraines, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma, eczema, rheumatism, hyperactivity in children, and various conditions of a chronically depleted immune system. It has also been linked in studies to multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Crohn’s disease, mental disorders (including addiction, depression and schizophrenia), and even cancer.
It is widely thought that geopathic stress primarily affects the immune system, putting it under considerable stress. It seems likely to us that geopathic stress affects the immune system in a very similar way as manmade electromagnetic fields, as the body perceives the distorted frequencies of both types of fields as foreign, unfamiliar and unsafe, and mounts an immune response against them. The constant battle and overactive immune response eventually depletes the immune system, rendering it less capable of fighting off pathogens and misaligned cells.
We get asked fairly often if Blushield will protect against geopathic stress, which is the reason we decided to do a deep dive into this topic! Blushield produces an alternative, nature-based, biologically coherent frequency field that the body can entrain with preferentially. Whether the stress is due to manmade electromagnetic fields from cell phones, Wifi and home electricity, or distorted electromagnetic fields in geopathic zones, Blushield’s nature-based frequency field gives your body an alternative “radio station” to tune into, removing the majority of the stress from these harmful, discordant frequencies.
There are other methods one can utilize to minimize geopathic stress, but these methods all depend on locating and pinpointing the exact areas of stress, so they can be neutralized with techniques such as “earth acupuncture” or other devices like copper wire shaped in specific ways. If you suspect that you regularly interact with a geopathic stress zone, you can find a dowser to pinpoint the exact locations and help you remedy it. You can also use a Blushield in your home, which can solve the issue in a much simpler way for most people who don’t have access to these other services, as the large coverage area of the Blushield home units will “blanket” all the areas of stress without you having to determine their specific location!

Chinese Emperor Kuang Yu (2205-2197 BC) proclaimed an edict, effective to this day, which reads: “No dwelling shall be built until the earth diviners have confirmed the intended building site to be free of earth demons.”
Likewise, all the way to this current day, after a broad and extensive study done in Vienna, Austria in the 1980s, there are now parts of Austria where permission will not be granted for many types of buildings unless the site has been dowsed and determined to be free of distorted earth radiation and geopathic stress.
From ancient to modern times, in many parts of the world this subject is considered very important, and we think that it’s worthy of consideration!
One of the most well known initial studies that found DNA damage from radiofrequency radiation was in 1995, by Henry Lai and Narendra Singh, a prolific research team who have done extensive studies on EMF harm over the years. This study found single strand DNA breaks in cultured rat brain cells exposed to low intensity microwave/Wifi frequency radiation of 2.45 GHz. The harm was found to be dose dependent, meaning longer exposure times resulted in more damage. This is important to note, since most people in modern times are exposed to this exact type of radiation 24/7 from their Wifi routers (and Wifi connected computers), and for shorter durations (but still regularly) from any device that uses Bluetooth, as well as cooking with microwave ovens.
Then in 2004, a comprehensive report sponsored by the European Commission, called the Reflex Report, demonstrated that radiation from 2G cell phone handsets was found to cause both single and double strand breaks in the DNA of cultured human and animal cells.
A study report published in 2011, by Martin Blank and Reba Goodman, examined existing studies and found increased stress protein levels and DNA strand breaks from EMF exposure, and interestingly, the effects persisted across a wide spectrum of frequencies, from extremely low frequency (ELF) up to the high radiofrequency (RF) spectrum. Being affected by such a wide spectrum points toward the likelihood of DNA acting as a fractal antenna, as the fractal nature would allow it to resonate with and pick up frequencies across a very wide range. The authors explained how DNA actually appears to possess both attributes of a fractal antenna: electronic conduction and self-symmetry. This could imply that DNA is an especially sensitive receiving instrument for all EMFs in the vicinity – from natural, “good” EMFs to harmful, repetitive ones! This could also mean it’s highly prone to damage from biologically harmful types of frequencies.
The current body of research on DNA damage from EMF exposure shows evidence of single strand breaks, double strand breaks, and oxidized bases in the cellular DNA. Each of these three types of DNA changes can play roles in cell mutation and cancer causation, by triggering chromosomal breaks, rearrangements, deletions and duplications, copy number mutations, and gene amplification. In the process of DNA destruction, essential genes that control cell division can be damaged or lost, causing cells to mutate because they lack proper instruction for their division.
As mentioned previously, DNA damage from EMFs is thought to be caused by the cascade of effects from excessive signaling of the VGCCs. When the calcium channels are overstimulated, it creates a chain reaction of other processes: the excess calcium creates a large quantity of nitric oxide, which then turns into peroxynitrite. Peroxynitrate degrades into free radicals like ROS (reactive oxygen species), which creates oxidative stress. These free radical breakdown products directly attack the DNA, causing cellular DNA damage. The free radicals have a damaging domino effect, where each free radical creates another of itself, continuing the cycle of damage until it meets up with an antioxidant of some kind, which halts the process of that particular free radical chain.
Cell and DNA damage from non-ionizing radiation may be a lot more similar to how damage from ionizing radiation (like gamma rays and x-rays) is inflicted than previously thought. Free radicals are the cause of much of the damage from ionizing radiation, as well, in a similar process. Ionizing radiation is considered dangerous because it can ionize (split apart) atoms inside the cell. Turns out non-ionizing radiation also damages cell membranes, causes DNA fragmentation and does considerable collateral damage to other cell components, which can result in cell death. So the end product of damage from all types of radiation can be one and the same.
Potentially the largest and most important study showing DNA damage and cancers of the brain and heart was executed by the U.S. Government itself – the National Toxicology Program study that cost $30 million dollars and took 10 years to complete, with a verdict (after an expert peer review panel) in 2018 of “clear evidence of carcinogenic activity”. The shocking dismissal of these results by our government since that time represents what many see as one of the most egregious crimes against humanity in the world of EMF research. They took a meticulously designed, perfectly executed study, funded wholly with U.S. taxpayer money, and shoved it under the rug. You can read all about the NTP study in this article.
EMFs are also linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and melanomas. Much of this is thought to be related to how EMFs suppress melatonin production. Most people think of melatonin as the “sleep hormone”, but it’s vastly more than that. Melatonin does help you have deep, restful sleeps, which allows your cells to rejuvenate and your immune system to restore itself, which is very important in cancer prevention. Melatonin also massively increases the ability of vitamin D to stop tumor growth – by 20 to 100 times! Also, melatonin is a powerful antioxidant that deactivates free radicals, such as the ROS that is produced through chain reaction by EMF exposure.
Although DNA damage and fertility issues may seem unrelated, lowered male and female fertility are associated with the same oxidative stress process that causes DNA damage. Fertility issues and birth defects are a result of DNA damage, but of the germ-line cells instead of the somatic cells.
Changes in somatic cell lines affect the health of that organism, without affecting its reproductive cells. Germ-line changes refer to alterations that DO affect reproductive cells (within the sperm and the egg), thereby altering the cells of future offspring. DNA damage from EMFs was found to affect both types of cells, affecting our current state of health, as well as the health of future generations!
EMF exposure reduces the synthesis of steroid hormones, including testosterone and progesterone, which can reduce libido and fertility. The VGCC activation chain caused by EMFs can also prevent sperm from effectively fertilizing an egg.
A study by the prestigious Cleveland Clinic showed that the more hours a man spends on his cell phone, the lower his sperm count, and sperm quality was substantially diminished. Men who used a cell phone for more than 4 hours a day had a 25% lower sperm count than those who rarely used a cell phone. They also noted a 50% drop in the number of properly formed sperm! Overall, they found significant effects on sperm count, mobility, viability and appearance.
In one of many studies linking EMF exposure and miscarriages, it was shown that almost one thousand pregnant women had a 180% increased incidence of miscarriage when exposed to slightly stronger than average magnetic fields of just 16 milligauss. Miscarriage is often caused by chromosomal mutations. We know that a man’s sperm is continually created throughout his life, so any mutations reflect his current and recent level of health. However, with women, we have a much more serious situation. All of a woman’s eggs she will ever have are created when she is in utero. She goes her entire life with these eggs, so if any are damaged at any point in her life, and a damaged egg gestates into a baby, it significantly increases her risk of either miscarriage or birth defects.
The eggs of a female baby and young girl are still immature, so they are more susceptible to damage during growth. Once an egg is damaged, it has been found to be irreversible, and the genetic damage in that egg is passed down to her female offspring’s eggs, and their female offspring!
This excellent and comprehensive study review from 2018 concludes from the available data that electromagnetic fields of various frequencies (especially the most highly tested 2.45 GHz Wifi frequencies and 60 Hz home electricity) have detrimental effects on human and animal reproductive health, including fertility and pregnancy and birth outcomes, even at very low levels of exposure. The studies found significantly reduced sperm motility and viability, increased sperm DNA fragmentation and damage, reproductive organ damage and carcinogenic risk, lower serum testosterone, increased testicular temperature, germ cell death, oxidative stress induced endometrial damage, altered hormonal cycles in females that reduced fertility, as well as DNA fragmentation in female egg cells with negative effects on embryonic development and fetal abnormalities.
Cancers rates are increasing worldwide, with 19 million new cases diagnosed in 2020. Predictions state that cases per year could rise to nearly 29 million by the year 2040! At the same time, human sperm count has dropped to below 50% of what used to be considered normal throughout the technologically advanced countries of the world, and reproductive rates have fallen below replacement levels in most places, as well. Many factors are thought to contribute to the cancer and fertility crises, and our approach to protecting our health (and the health of our descendants) should be multifaceted. Based on the many available studies we just touched on, linking EMFs to DNA damage and fertility issues, we would do well to include EMF reduction and protection in our health strategy!
EMF protection in itself should be approached from several angles. Minimizing EMF exposure sources (much as possible and practical) is the best first step. After that, you can add effective EMF protection technology (like Blushield) to protect you from the EMF exposure sources you cannot control or eliminate. Optimizing your melatonin levels will also go a long way to ensuring your body has enough of this precious and potent endogenous super antioxidant to protect all of your cells from damage. Lastly, a nutrient rich, clean diet with abundant sources of antioxidants (such as vitamin C and E, polyphenols and flavonoids) will ensure that any oxidative stress from EMF exposure will be neutralized quickly.

Freedom Revival in the Heartland
Soon after the tower was turned on, children and adults living nearby began experiencing symptoms of ill health they had never felt before. The day the tower was fired up, 13-year-old Amelia Gilardi’s little sister started feeling dizzy, headachy, and complaining of a buzzing in her head. Amelia didn’t even know what a cell tower was until construction began on their street, but soon her entire family was experiencing troubling symptoms they had not anticipated.
Neighbors began complaining of various health issues. Elaine Ireland, a local resident who had never been prone to headaches, began experiencing frequent headaches and ringing in the ears. Reports of dizziness, insomnia, heart palpitations, headaches, nausea and vomiting, skin rashes, and memory and cognitive issues began adding up. One person was so dizzy that he could no longer drive his car. Another got tinnitus so bad that he was considering moving. Some of the kids had to sleep with “vomit buckets” next to their beds. By the end of that year, the Gilardi family knew of at least 13 neighbors that were sick, and one had even developed cancer. After a couple years of continued exposure, there are now 17 neighbors complaining of issues, and 3 now have cancer.
Some of the residents were awakened to a sense of urgency that they needed to do whatever they could to either have the tower turned off, or moved further away – continuing to live in their homes, without their health being threatened, depended on it. Amelia’s mother, Courtney Gilardi, became one of the leading activists in this cause, repeatedly attempting to contact the local Health Department and calling attention to the issue at City Council meetings. At first, no one would listen, or do anything to help them.
The response from the city was not quick enough, and as the residents’ symptoms continued and even worsened, some had to sell their homes and move elsewhere, and others had to go stay with friends or even live in their cars. Amelia’s family had access to a small cottage a few miles away, where they retreated to find relief from their symptoms. The house was old, tiny, and infested with rats, with no personal space for the kids. Yet, the relief they felt from their radiation symptoms made it the only acceptable option. Over time, as their family dynamic became stressed and disrupted due to poor living conditions and their mother working full days just on the cell tower issue, the children yearned to be back in their home and living their normal lives.
One day, Amelia’s little sister told their mom that she doesn’t remember what it was like to live in their own house.
Amelia spoke in person at a local City Council meeting for the first time at age 13 – you can listen to her speech here. Since then, at only age 15, she has already spoken at more than 50 Board of Health and City Council meetings on this issue!
Finally, after much discussion, the City Council decided to send the issue to the Pittsfield Board of Health for an investigation. After combing through stacks of research papers and questioning a dozen scientists and doctors, which took a full 18 months, the members of the Board began waking up to the true potential for danger that wireless radiation has on human health. For the first time in United States history, a local Health Board issued an emergency cease-and-desist order, directing a cell phone company to shut down a cell tower. It was a bold move, but the stakes were high, and the residents were not backing down, as they were desperate for relief and resolution.
Unfortunately, the reaction was retaliatory – Verizon sued the City of Pittsfield, stating that their cell tower radiation was well within FCC exposure level guidelines, and essentially blaming the residents of faking their illnesses by stating that they must have psychological problems. Since the Pittsfield Board of Health had not allocated funds to support a lawsuit, they unfortunately chose to withdraw the order.
But Verizon and the other telecoms know just as well as the rest of us that the FCC guidelines were set way back in 1996, based on the comparatively meager radiation levels most of humanity was exposed to at the time from the sporadic fancy flip phone, pagers and cordless home phones. Furthermore, the guidelines are based only on exposure levels that produce thermal (heating) effects, while thousands of studies have proven there are non-thermal harmful effects of RF radiation. Of course, they are dead set on never admitting publicly that they know all this, as it would cut a huge chunk from their profits.
For a detailed explanation of why the FCC guidelines are outdated and allow nearly every life form to be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation with no recourse, you can read our article on the current court order requiring the FCC to address the mountain of evidence on health harms and update their 1996 safety guidelines accordingly:
FCC Under Fire: The Pressure Is On For Radiofrequency Safety Guideline Updates
At this point, they are just delaying the inevitable. Sooner or later, justice will find them, and they will have to backtrack so far that the industry itself may face a kind of collapse! But how long is it going to take for the final blow to be dealt, illegal and harmful cell towers shut down (or at least moved further away from people), so that people like Amelia Gilardi’s family, Elaine Ireland, and over a dozen of their neighbors can move back into the homes they own, and resume their normal lives?
Since the city withdrew the cease-and-desist order, and the story has gained traction in the media, Children’s Health Defense stepped in and picked up the case. CHD is determined to help these people get back in their homes safely, and to fight to set a new precedent to win future cases where the telecoms are unjustly driving people out of their homes.
The attorney on the case is Scott McCullough, CHD’s leading litigator for electromagnetic radiation cases, and the very same attorney who recently fought (and won!) to require the FCC to update their outdated safety guidelines!
This legal battle is still ongoing. In June, a superior court judge ruled that the lawsuit can move forward, after some objections from Verizon tried to put a halt to the case. The court is admitting that the plaintiffs (the local residents and CHD) have a valid case to be made, and they want to hear more.
The revolutionary and incredibly important work that Children’s Health Defense attorneys are doing to protect children (and all living beings) from harmful environmental factors including wireless radiation requires continuous funding, as they are a non-profit organization.
Our Blushield USA team is made up of a few families, and most of us have children of our own. We strongly believe in the importance of the work CHD is doing, which is why we support them with monthly financial contributions! When you purchase your Blushield home and portable EMF protection devices, know that you are helping us to financially support the vitally important cases that Children’s Health Defense takes on.

This is where the dual band signal comes in.
]]>
Let’s get back to how Blushield works, and how our new dual band tech is different than our previous approach. As explained previously, the every-half-minute signal output of our mono band devices was generally all that was needed to entrain with the Blushield field over the moderate levels of 3G, 4G, Wifi and home electricity EMFs we have all been exposed to for many years.
Now, 5G has entered the picture, and the whole frequency landscape is changing considerably. The nature of 5G is many times more intense in its structure and function, as it would need to be to transmit higher loads of information at a much faster rate. 5G is utilizing much higher portions of the electromagnetic frequency spectrum, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the differences between 5G and the previous generations of wireless technology! Other new aspects, such as beamforming technology, massive MIMO, and the exponential increase in antenna numbers per square mile, mean that 5G as a whole is going to have a much more intense effect on living organisms. You can read more about exactly how 5G works (and how it’s different than 4G) in this article we wrote:
5G Explained and What It Means for Health and Humanity
When our inventor and engineers first learned about how 5G was going to work, they got busy figuring out how to adapt our EMF protection technology to ensure the most optimal protection against the behemoth of frequencies that was coming!
This is where the dual band signal comes in.
We kept our original multiple waveform algorithm of frequencies that we have become known for over the years, the one that emits an intermittent (every half minute) scalar field. Then we layered on a second scalar field, which is designed to operate in tandem with the first one, potentiating the protective effects. This second field is “always on”, except for a couple seconds every half minute, when it’s interrupted by the original field. The alternating, tandem nature of the two fields is designed to have a dynamic effect on the body, so it never fully gets used to the field or develops a resistance to it. In nature, frequencies are always changing in subtle ways, and are never repetitive in exact frequency or amplitude. We base our technology on this same principle, and follow the known patterns of nature for optimal biological effects!
Since 5G is intense and “always on”, it tends to generate more of a “pull” on our biology, so we needed a protective field that is constantly on to make sure the body stays entrained with the harmonious natural field that Blushield emits.
Let’s talk about the differences between the two frequency bands in our new tech. Both fields imitate nature’s gently randomized frequency fields that follow overarching natural patterns. The first signal layers multiple waveforms on top of each other – if you can imagine a subtle, inaudible version of a trickling stream, wind blowing in the leaves of trees, all while the birds are singing, you are close to understanding how Blushield’s waveforms are layered! The second, “always on” field specifically implements the Phi ratio, one of the most well known and ubiquitous patterns found in nature.
When our first dual band device was released, we wrote an article all about the Phi ratio and its significance, where we have already explained Phi in depth:
The Phi Ratio & The New Blushield Premium Ultra Unit
The Phi ratio is a mathematical observation that has been proven to occur widely throughout natural phenomena. It has been observed that because Phi is an irrational (endless/infinite) number with special properties, it has infinite growth potential, which supports the patterns of prolific reproduction and regeneration that define the natural world. Visually, expressions of Phi are widely considered to be aesthetically beautiful, and inspire a sense of wonder and awe (this video captures the beauty of Phi perfectly!)
This article (and this one!) give some beautiful examples of the appearance of the Phi ratio in nature. It is found in the structure of flowers and seeds, the growth of trees, the logarithmic spiral in snail and nautilus shells (which also happens to be the pattern of our inner ear!), in the structure of hurricanes and even galaxies at the macro level, down to the micro level in the structure of our DNA double helix! It governs the proportions in human, animal and insect bodies, and is even thought to be expressed in instinctive human behavior and emotional patterns.
Phi ratio patterns reinforce health, well-being and regeneration in living organisms. Implementing continuous Phi ratio patterns in the second frequency band of our dual band devices is designed to not only protect the body from the more intense effect that 5G has on us, but also to support and strengthen the body’s regenerative and healing capacity in response to any damaging radiation that does still get through and affect us.
Our dual band devices are considered to be 97-99% protective against EMFs and 5G (as long as you have the appropriate strength device for your level of EMF exposure), but since nothing in nature is 100% efficient, there may still be some radiation that gets through and affects us, which the body will always attempt to regenerate from – and Phi ratio structured frequency patterns support that process. There may also be times when we don’t have our Blushield around, and revisiting the dual band field with its Phi ratio patterns can help our bodies heal and normalize more quickly from that exposure.
Our older mono band models were designed to protect from all forms of EMFs, including general 5G in the vicinity, but the dual band models are specifically designed to give much better protection from 5G sources that are very close by, like a 5G antenna within direct line of sight, or less than a quarter mile from you. The dual band models are also for protection from exposure to 5G that’s utilizing higher portions of the frequency spectrum, called high band 5G – even more well known as ‘millimeter waves’.
Almost all of our current home and portable models are dual band. The Phi Series includes the Phi 02 Plugin, Phi 03, and the Phi 01 Portable. They give the same base level of protection as our older mono band Plugin, Cube and white Portable, with the added dual band signal! The Phi Series is for those who live in places with low to moderate EMF levels, like rural areas, small towns, suburban areas or medium sized cities.
Our Ultimate Series devices are also dual band, and have stronger overall protective fields, designed for moderate to high (and even extreme) EMF exposure in medium to large cities and dense metropolitan areas, with a high density of cell towers and antennas, which inevitably brings high exposure to 5G sources. Our Ultimate Series home models are the B1 Premium Cube, Premium Ultra, and C1 Ultimate Cube, and the portable options are the T1 Portable, U1 Portable, W1 Watch and X1 Pendant.

There is already a large body of research on humans and animals showing effects of electromagnetic fields on brain function. All of these studies used low intensity fields, well under the current safety standards set by the FCC, and all well below the threshold of thermal (heating) effects of EMFs.
In most of the studies done, microwave radiation was shown to alter various neurotransmitters, which alters brain function and behavior. Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that heavily influences cognitive function, focus, attention and memory, was significantly reduced after exposure to microwave radiation, especially 2.45 GHz Wifi radiation. The endogenous opioid neurotransmitter systems were also affected. Both choline and endogenous opioid changes can impair spatial learning and memory.
A Russian document originally written in 1973 investigated rats exposed to non-thermal levels of microwave radiation, and reported that even though the nervous system is only about 2% of the tissue mass of the rodents, the majority of the severe changes from radiation exposure occurred there, suggesting that the nervous system is the most sensitive region of the body to the effects of EMFs of all the body’s tissues, followed by the heart and testes. Subsequent research on the voltage-gated calcium channels supports this, as the highest concentration of VGCCs is found in the nervous system, and considering the central role that the VGCCs play in neurotransmitter and neuroendocrine hormone release. Another finding is that neuroendocrine hormones often increase in the initial period of exposure, but with prolonged exposure, the hormone supply becomes exhausted, leading to lowered secretion and sometimes cell death. The document also reports seizures, neurodegeneration, and synaptic connection disruptions, the last of which commonly occurs in cases of autism.
A NASA document from 1981 on non-thermal, non-ionizing electromagnetic field effects on humans reported occupational exposures to radio- to microwave-frequency EMFs resulted in headaches, fatigue and daytime sleepiness, sleep disturbances, memory loss, inability to concentrate, central nervous system disorders, extreme irritability, moodiness and nervous tension.
A 2013 survey showed that owners of Smart meters reported adverse health effects that were not experienced until the Smart meter was installed. The most common effects reported were insomnia, tinnitus, head pressure, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, agitation, fatigue, dizziness, numbness, and burning/tingling skin. A 2014 Smart meter case study in Australia reported very similar adverse effects.
A 2009 study on rats found a reduction in brain levels of vitamins C and E, and an increase in lipid peroxidation, all indicators of oxidative stress and free radical activity after EMF exposure. Replenishing vitamin C and E, as well as supplementing with selenium and L-carnitine, was found to protect the brain from oxidative damage from the EMFs.
One study examined the effects of EMFs on the microglia, which are the immune cells of the nervous system that are normally activated by injuries and infections of the nerve tissue. Excessive microglia activation can damage nerve tissue, and lead to degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. They found that 2.45 GHz radiation activated the microglia, followed by an inflammatory response.
Another study recorded a stress response to non-ionizing Wifi frequency radiation in the hippocampus of rat brains, by observing significant changes in stress related genes, including heat shock proteins, apoptosis and DNA repair genes. In many studies, calcium channel flooding has been shown to significantly increase heat shock proteins.
There is a study that exposed ant colonies to Wifi routers, and showed almost immediate disturbed and erratic behavior, and the appearance of being sick. Normal foraging patterns didn’t resume until several hours after the exposure ended.
Rats were exposed to three frequencies commonly used by cell phones – 900 Mhz, 1800 Mhz and 2.45 GHz. Spatial orientation, learning and memory were impaired at all three frequencies, and the number of DNA strand breaks was significantly increased. At the 1800 Mhz and 2.45 Ghz frequencies, DNA damage also increased significantly. Another study replicated these results with rats, at the same frequencies.
Another Wifi frequency study with rats showed a significant increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS), lipid peroxidation, apoptosis, and oxidative damage of DNA and proteins. Learning and memory were detrimentally affected due to cell damage.
The human brain and nervous system are incredibly complex, and the experiments elaborated on above are in no way implying that there are simple, uniform effects across the board. The brain has ways of adapting very quickly to environmental changes, in an attempt to maintain functional homeostasis. When the receptors for certain neurotransmitters are stimulated out of proportion to opposing systems, the number of receptors actually decrease to compensate for the excessive stimulation. This phenomenon occurs during the high level dopamine stimulation from excess social media and drug use, where the user’s dopamine receptor numbers (and receptor sensitivity) decrease to where the person no longer feels the same degree of pleasure from more gentle, natural stimulus like listening to music and exercising.
Another example is how consistent caffeine consumption binds to our adenosine receptors (in place of adenosine), so we don’t feel tired when we would ordinarily. To compensate for this, and get the rest that we need, the body increases the number of adenosine receptors, to give our endogenous adenosine molecules a chance to utilize their own receptors and make us feel appropriately tired/restful. This is why a sudden cessation of caffeine makes us unusually tired for a period of time – we initially still have those larger numbers of adenosine receptors, which the body then floods solely with adenosine in the absence of caffeine. If the lack of caffeine continues, the body will soon reduce the number of adenosine molecules to normal levels, and we will no longer feel excessively tired.
The brain expertly adapts to all kinds of inputs, maintaining homeostasis in circumstances that would otherwise throw us off-kilter. This happens in response to EMFs, as well. In many cases, there are immediate drops in neurotransmitter output, demonstrating an obvious impairment in brain function. In some cases, there’s an initial increase in the output of some neurotransmitters (seeming to imply beneficial or therapeutic effects), with an eventual drop to inadequate levels after continued exposure. That’s why longer exposure durations are so important, and studies only showing short term exposures are not necessarily showing us the whole picture, especially as it applies to our real world, very long duration exposures!
One simplistic argument of the “EMFs have no health effects” camp (which includes the telecom industry, of course, and the governmental bodies that supposedly regulate them) is that because some studies show therapeutic effects of EMFs, and other studies show harmful effects, that this can be “zeroed out” to mean no effects. This is laughably oversimplistic, and just plain wrong. What these seemingly contradictory results actually show is that there ARE effects, but that their conditions are as nuanced and complex as the human body and the living earth itself, and need to be treated with much more discernment and curiosity when approached in research. A lot has already been revealed by the large body of EMF science, and a lot more remains to be fully understood.
One interesting theory, with some good evidence to back it up, is that the stimulation of the calcium channels can initiate one of two separate pathways, depending on the nature of the EMFs, including the frequency, intensity, and the duration of exposure. The first pathway is called the nitric oxide signaling pathway, with downstream effects of activating Nrf2, which has whole-body cell protective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and lifespan lengthening effects. This may explain the therapeutic effects of some types of EMFs – short exposure durations are more commonly associated with beneficial effects, but it is more nuanced than that. Nrf2 can also be activated by various antioxidant-rich food substances, such as berries, green tea, chocolate, onions, and other fruits.
The other pathway that can result from calcium channel activation is called the peroxynitrite pathway, which seems to be most reliably initiated by prolonged, excessive calcium signaling. This is thought to be the pathway of the pathophysiological (harmful) effects of EMFs. This pathway is characterized by elevated levels of both nitric oxide and superoxide, which react with each other to produce peroxynitrite. Peroxynitrite breaks down into free radicals, producing oxidative stress and potentially DNA damage, which adversely affects the body as a whole. Evidence suggests that longer duration exposure to certain types of EMFs, beyond a certain threshold, activates this destructive pathway.
Our own research (which Blushield EMF protection technology is based on) supports this, indicating that prolonged exposure to the repetitive frequencies from manmade EMF sources overstimulate the body and trigger the immune system, producing excessive oxidative stress.
Our intention with this article is to give you a glimpse into how much research has already accumulated related to the effects of electromagnetic fields on the function of human and animal brains and nervous systems... and also, how there is much more research that needs to be done!
The telecom industry views a lack of 100% conclusive evidence and debated mechanisms of harm as free reign to expose the population to any amount of radiation it wishes, with basically an “innocent until proven guilty” stance. We see it in exactly the opposite way – any shred of uncertainty regarding the extent of potential health harm should invoke the precautionary principle:
Precautionary principle (noun): “The principle that the introduction of a new product or process whose ultimate effects are disputed or unknown should be resisted.”
“The precautionary principle is a broad epistemological, philosophical and legal approach to innovations with potential for causing harm when extensive scientific knowledge on the matter is lacking. It emphasizes caution, pausing and review before leaping into new innovations that may prove disastrous.” – Wikipedia
Caution and skepticism regarding the unchecked proliferation of wireless radiation is a healthy mindset to have, and aligns with our natural protective instincts concerning the health of our own bodies and our family and friends we care for.
Safe, intelligent use of technology, plenty of distance and time away from devices (when possible), a nutrient-rich healthy diet, and effective EMF protection like Blushield home and portable devices is a sensible approach to take as the science works diligently to discover more about this novel influence in our modern lifestyles!
First, let’s look at several case studies on diabetic humans, published in 2009 by Dr. Magda Havas, specifically experimenting with the effects of the EMFs from dirty electricity emitted by wiring and appliances in homes and buildings.
Of the four case studies, two were type 1 diabetics, and the other two were type 2 diabetics. Some interesting results include the very quick reduction in blood glucose levels measured when the subject moved from an environment high in dirty electricity to an electrically clean environment – it only took several minutes, or less than an hour, to see blood glucose drop to healthier levels. The changes were significant and obvious, but in most cases also not so drastic as to result in hypoglycemia. The exception was the case of the 12-year-old type 1 diabetic, who required extra sugar pills to prevent a steep blood sugar drop as the family experimented with modifying the level of insulin required to maintain his blood sugar in a healthy range. Overall, the type 1 diabetics required considerably less insulin in the electrically clean environment, than when living in a home with dirty electricity exposure, and the type 2 diabetics’ fasting blood glucose stayed within a lower, healthier range. When the subjects reentered an area with dirty electricity, their blood glucose rose to the previously unhealthy levels once more.
Another interesting finding related to one of the type 2 diabetic subjects’ (a 57-year-old female’s) exercise habits. Exercise generally tends to lower blood glucose to a healthier level, and this was consistently found to be the case after the subject went for a walk in the mall. However, the opposite was found to be true when walking on a treadmill – her blood glucose levels actually rose afterward! Treadmills have variable speed motors that produce dirty electricity. Her actual activity level was the same, walking at the mall versus on a treadmill, but her EMF exposure was considerably higher on the treadmill.
It is speculated in this study that electrically hypersensitive (EHS) individuals’ blood sugar levels react quickly to electromagnetic fields, and that this segment of the population (it is currently speculated that 3-35% of the population is EHS) is being misdiagnosed with diabetes, when it’s really a purely environmental factor that’s affecting their blood sugar. It seems more likely to us that EMFs affect everyone, to greater or lesser degrees, and that EMF exposure is likely to at least be a co-factor (even if it’s not the primary cause) in most cases of diabetes. EHS individuals are very likely have more dramatic blood sugar changes in response to EMF exposure than those who are less sensitive to EMFs.
A few controlled laboratory studies have been done on rats, which showed significantly elevated blood glucose levels in the EMF exposed groups, compared to the control groups. The greatest change was seen with longer durations of exposure to cell phone type frequencies, versus the shorter exposure times where the changes were less significant.
In one study from 2013, all the groups of rats exposed for longer than 15 minutes per day had significantly elevated blood glucose levels, and the ones exposed for even longer periods (30+ minutes per day) also had increased insulin levels, as well as signs of insulin resistance, compared to the control group.
Another study from 2021, also on rats in a controlled setting, exposed the experimental groups to 1800 Mhz cell phone radiation for similar periods of time as the previous study. There was a clear dose-response relationship, in that the groups exposed to a longer duration of EMF exposure showed the worst results in the areas of fasting blood glucose levels, serum insulin levels, and markers of insulin resistance.
One or two studies seemed to indicate a lowering of blood glucose from EMF exposure, but these studies admittedly had short term exposure durations, which seemed to initially lower glucose, while longer term exposures tended to raise blood sugar levels. This could be related to the body using additional glucose to deal with the stress of the EMF initially, at first lowering it, but then raising it over time as stress hormones like cortisol also increase in response to the EMFs.
Many studies show that EMF exposure produces oxidative stress. Martin Pall’s body of research has thoroughly explored how pulsed, modulated EMFs from radiofrequency radiation (especially 5G) creates dysfunction in the voltage gated calcium channel (VGCC) signaling that controls the influx of calcium ions into the body’s cells, either inhibiting or triggering a cascade of activities in the body. The VGCC activation can cause oxidative stress, and also be triggered by oxidative stress.
Dr. Robert O. Becker has postulated that the reason EMFs cause oxidative stress is primarily due to the body’s excessive immune response to what it perceives to be a foreign invader. The manmade electromagnetic fields humans are exposed to 24/7 in modern times are foreign and unfamiliar to our biology, compared to the natural background frequencies we have lived and thrived with since the beginning of our existence. To the body, these artificial, invisible, perpetual fields are interpreted similarly to a viral or bacterial threat. However, there’s nothing physically present to attack and defeat, since the source of the perceived threat is coming from outside our bodies, so the immune response continues, always trying to eliminate the threat, but never succeeding… exhausting its resources in the process.
The immune response itself produces oxidative stress. The white blood cells produce inflammatory cytokines designed to quickly eliminate viral and bacterial invaders, which unfortunately can damage or destroy healthy cells as innocent bystanders. In the short term, this is an acceptable trade-off, as long as the threat is quickly resolved so our body can repair the inevitable oxidative damage that occurs during any period of strong immune activation. The real problem occurs when the immune response becomes chronic, which produces cumulative oxidative stress, resulting in DNA damage and many other health issues if the stress is prolonged and unresolved.
Oxidative stress raises cortisol levels, which results in elevated blood glucose levels. Chronic immune activation will result in high cortisol levels over a long period of time, which is likely to raise blood sugar chronically, presenting as hyperglycemia, prediabetes and eventually diabetes.
Cleaning up your electromagnetic environment by removing or minimizing EMF sources, as well as utilizing powerful and effective EMF protection technology like Blushield, could be used as part of a holistic, well rounded strategy to prevent and treat glucose metabolism disorders.
Combined with other lifestyle strategies, such as lowering stress levels, ensuring good sleep (which regulates blood sugar and increases insulin sensitivity), regular exercise and a healthy diet with plenty of essential nutrients and fiber, EMF reduction and protection is a smart choice!
At this very moment, there is a strong human-generated radiofrequency (RF) field occurring across the entire Earth, at all times. This is caused by the combination of all the cell towers emitting overlapping fields, as well as RF emitting satellites that are providing coverage in more remote areas. Even the areas that don’t get much or any cell service still have an ever present low grade RF field, as lower frequency communication fields can travel great distances around the Earth by bouncing between the ionosphere and the Earth’s surface, like a racquetball in an enclosed room.
The highest RF field strengths occur in areas with the highest human population numbers: central Europe, the eastern US, and China. Forest decline was first recognized and defined based on events that occurred in these exact same areas. China is currently experiencing rapid desertification and species die-off, as their radiation levels continue to increase. In several studies, climate change was not found to be a causal agent in forest decline (see this study and this one), although there is evidence that trees in areas of forest decline are less tolerant of extreme weather conditions, and are also more vulnerable to pests, pointing towards some unknown factor that’s reducing the vitality and resilience of the trees to natural stressors. Mortality rates of all dominant tree species in the western US have been doubling every two to three decades in old growth forests, and new tree growth is happening slower than old trees are dying. No definitive cause has been found for these occurrences.
Even more so than humans and animals, trees are very well suited for studying whether radiofrequency emissions from cell phone towers cause damage in living organisms. Trees are stationary, slow growing, and live for a very long time. Any unusual but consistent changes observed in trees reflect sustained influences in their immediate environment.
In 2017, an Observation Guide was created by Helmut Bruenig, and posted on the Competence Initiative for the Protection of Humanity, the Environment and Democracy website. It documents consistent, visible crown damage to trees, always occurring on the side of the tree that directly faces a cell phone tower. The document provides one example after another, all displaying the same distinct patterns, all within sight of a cell tower. This observation guide was also summarized in a published study, Radiofrequency radiation injures trees around mobile phone base stations.
Typical damage patterns include dead limbs and branches, irregular leaf coloration, leaf wilt and loss, fewer new shoots and leaves, bare patches in the tree canopy, and a generally diseased look without any indicators of pests. The damage starts on the side facing the cell tower, and over a number of years, may permeate the interior of the tree and eventually affect the entire tree. The trees degrade more every year, and do not recover.
This document is incredibly eye-opening, and we recommend that everyone look through it and compare the photos of the trees, and the progression of the damage. Once you start recognizing the damage patterns, you may start noticing the same patterns on free-standing trees in line of sight of cell towers in your area!
It was noticed that the tops of the trees nearest the towers tend to dry up, and they seem to be most vulnerable if their roots are close to water, possibly indicating the resonant quality of water to frequencies – the body of water is “entraining” with the incoherent EMFs from the cell tower, which is being absorbed by the tree roots, in addition to the tree canopy being hit by the frequencies directly. Tree tops are known as RF waveguides, and are actually used to channel and direct frequencies for military applications, especially for low-flying weapon systems.
What exactly is happening inside the plants from radiation exposure that’s causing such poor health? It all seems to center around oxidative stress. The trees and plants are telling us they are under a lot of stress, and are attempting to compensate for it. The effects are strikingly similar to what happens to a plant when it is wounded, cut or burned, as found in a study exposing tomato plants to cell phone frequency EMFs. Great differences were found in the exposed plants, compared to the control group – up to 300%! The EMFs used in the study were at low, non-thermal power levels.
Another study on aspen trees showed healthier, more vigorous growth in the Faraday shielded group of trees, versus the trees exposed to the normal ambient RF levels of the area, which had cell towers nearby. The RF exposed trees in this study showed necrotic lesions on the fall leaves, smaller leaves, less vigorous growth overall, and considerably less anthocyanin production. Anthocyanins are responsible for the vibrant, rich colors of autumn leaves, and act as a shield for the photosynthetic apparatus in the leaves, so the absence of these important compounds makes the leaves vulnerable to damage from visible light. The EMF exposed plants in these studies had weaker leaf coloration, and considerably more leaf damage, which affects the overall nutrient levels in the tree, leaving it with less nutritional resources for growth in subsequent years.
A study exposing thale cress (a mustard family plant) to the EMFs from the base unit of a cordless phone system for a long duration found a considerable decrease in photosynthetic potential. This means the plant’s main growth mechanism (chlorophyll production as a response to sunlight) was stalled, decreasing nutrient production and overall vigor, growth and lifespan.
Another fascinating phenomenon which definitely indicates a strong stress response is the increase in terpene compounds in plants exposed to EMFs. Three aromatic plant species were exposed to cell phone and Wifi range frequencies, which resulted in enhanced emission of volatile compounds (terpenes and other volatile oils). These are protective constituents designed to shield a plant from an imminent danger or threat. They also make the plant incredibly flammable.
Consistent EMF exposure tends to reduce the moisture levels of plants and trees, making them drier and therefore more flammable. It also increases volatile oil production, as noted above. Plants with a high enough concentration of volatile oils have been known to spontaneously combust, catching on fire. Could this have something to do with the alarming increase in wildfires over the past several years? It sure does seem to correlate with the increase in cell tower numbers, and the 5G rollout! This is definitely something warranting further investigation, in a serious and dedicated manner.
On top of the direct damage that EMFs have on plants and trees, it just adds insult to injury that trees are being cut down, aggressively trimmed, and their roots disturbed to build out the small cell infrastructure that 5G requires.
As our most recent FCC Under Fire article mentioned, the FCC is currently under a lot of pressure by the Council on Environmental Equity (CEQ), who are responsible for setting the environmental safety regulations for the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA). The FCC is now required to provide documented research that proves their current safety guidelines for radiofrequency radiation exposure are safe for the environment, including wildlife and plants. This research doesn’t actually exist.
One of our favorite things about Blushield stationary home EMF protection devices is their extremely large coverage area, which will protect areas far beyond the walls of most people’s homes. This is because our homes do not end at our walls – the Earth is our home, as well, and it’s just as important to protect the wild creatures around us as our own human families! Having a Blushield plugged into your home will essentially create a safe space for wildlife – your own nature sanctuary.
We hope that this Earth Day brings widespread awareness to the harmful effects that artificial incoherent EMFs are having on the environment, including the plants that feed us and produce the oxygen we breathe. The continued existence of our species, and all other species on Earth, depends on it!

We have been closely following a court case and lawsuit against the FCC that started almost four years ago that will have profound implications in protecting the health of people, animals and the environment from harmful and excessive wireless electromagnetic field exposure. The last piece of big news was in August of 2021, when the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against the FCC, determining that they have not adequately considered the health and environmental effects of RF radiation when reviewing (and deciding not to update) their official safety guidelines. The verdict of this case put the ball back in the FCC’s court, requiring that they acknowledge and respond to ALL the current studies about RF harm to living organisms, and to change their guidelines accordingly.
We wrote about this first big court win in our August 2021 article, Court Rules FCC Guidelines Are Not Proven Adequate in Protecting Health & Environment.
It has been over one and a half years since the FCC was tasked with either providing substantial evidence that supports their decision not to update their guidelines (which doesn’t exist), or to go to work on changing their guidelines to actually reflect not just increased modern exposure levels, but also non-thermal effects.
Guess what they have done since then? Literally nothing, and none of us are surprised.
Just as we predicted in 2021, their plan of action is to delay their responsibility as much as they can possibly get away with. The only alternative would be to change their guidelines, or provide evidence that supports their initial decision not to change them. Changing guidelines would be highly problematic to the telecommunications infrastructure, making it very clear how much they side with the telecoms and not the American people. Providing truly adequate and thorough evidence supporting their previous guidelines (established in 1996, when barely anyone had a cell phone) is impossible, which leaves them with their one remaining tactic: avoidance and delay.
The Children’s Health Defense (CHD) and Environmental Health Trust (EHT), the plaintiffs in this lawsuit, know the FCC’s delay tactics well. After giving them a reasonable period of time to perform their court-ordered duty, the plaintiffs filed a new petition to open the case back up, rekindling the pressure on the FCC.
CHD’s petition stated, “The Commission cannot just sit on this matter any longer… Any continued non-action will violate the judgment and mandate and expose the Commission to further judicial review and, ultimately, a mandamus order requiring action.”
A mandamus is an order from a court (like the U.S. Court of Appeals) to an inferior government official or agency (like the FCC) ordering the government official or body to properly fulfill their official duties, or correct an abuse of discretion. It is when the decision of a higher government authority overrides, and requires specific action from, a lesser government body.
FCC also being pressured by looming September deadline from environmental agency
This lawsuit and the court ruling is not the only fire compelling the FCC into action. The Council on Environmental Equality (CEQ) is the federal agency responsible for determining the rules and legalities of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA). The CEQ has issued a set of revisions to the Protection of the Environment rules that require the FCC to consult with them regarding the environmental impact of RF radiation.
CHD attorney Scott McCullough explains, “The FCC’s emission rules [about RF radiation] have always been purely about human exposure. They do not address limits for exposure to birds, bees, trees, etc… But the CEQ rules — which they have to update to match — make plain that NEPA procedures are all about [the] impact to the entire human environment, not just humans. The science is telling us RF is harming not only people but also wildlife, trees and especially pollinators.”
With two government agencies both requiring updated safety guidelines from the FCC, from two different angles, some kind of action is going to have to be taken on their part. We are very curious to observe their next move, as they cannot ignore and dismiss the mounting evidence of harm for much longer. Their time is running out!
Children’s Health Defense is ruthlessly dedicated to the health of living organisms
When it comes to big government agencies, history has demonstrated time and again that they love to play dirty and get their way, no matter who gets stepped on or decimated in the process. This is the case for big tech (the telecoms and the FCC), big pharma, and the big food, chemical and energy industries. It’s going to take individuals and organizations who are ruthlessly dedicated to protecting the health of innocent people, animals and the environment to take on these seemingly powerful entities who are clearly not looking after our best interests. We need someone who is on our side, and also has enough power and influence to make a big difference.
Children’s Health Defense was founded by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., world renowned environmental activist and attorney of the famed Kennedy family. Kennedy has been actively advocating for the health of humans and the environment for over 30 years, and is primarily focused on protecting living beings from the detrimental health effects of water pollution (especially pesticides and herbicides), vaccine dangers, and the dangers of radiofrequency radiation exposure.
At Blushield USA, we strongly believe in the CHD mission, and choose to support them by donating a portion of our monthly profits to support their organization, and specifically their radiofrequency and 5G related actions! This means that when you purchase a Blushield device to protect yourself and your family from the harms of electromagnetic fields, a little bit of your purchase total is funding important court cases like the one outlined in this article! You are helping to bring widespread awareness to the harms of EMFs, and in the long and hard fight to hold these agencies accountable for their actions.
We will continue to keep you updated with all the progress made in this court case against the FCC, as well as all related CHD projects to bring awareness and positive change in the area of EMFs!
Is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. running for U.S. President?
You may have heard the rumor, and the rumor is true… Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., founder of Children’s Health Defense, has taken the first steps to run for President of the United States in 2024. He will be running as a Democratic candidate, against Joe Biden. As the nephew of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, and the son of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, this path is right up his alley.
He has been considering running for President in 2024 for a while now, but just last Wednesday, April 4th, Kennedy filed the requisite paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
For his campaign, Kennedy states, “My top priority is to end the corrupt merger between state and corporate power that has ruined our economy, shattered the middle class, polluted our landscapes and waters, poisoned our children and robbed us of our values and freedom.”
Kennedy founded CHD after being approached by countless numbers of parents concerned about the alarming rise in childhood chronic diseases, who urged him to look beyond the narratives of mainstream media and government agencies to find the true root causes of this tragic phenomenon.
He explains further, “After carefully reviewing the science, it was clear to me that vaccines and other toxic environmental exposures were inextricably linked to rising rates of autism, allergies, autoimmune disorders and a host of other conditions. I knew I could never turn my back on the children and families so profoundly affected by these exposures. My commitment to health freedom, preventing future injuries, unmasking those responsible and holding them accountable will never diminish.
We are not endorsing any Presidential candidate, but we think it's great that he's running, as his campaign for the next year and a half will inevitably result in a widespread dissemination of information and awareness about the harms of wireless radiation, as well as other pervasive toxic exposures that are slowly degrading the health of all Americans, currently unbeknownst to the vast majority of them.
With knowledge comes power, and a flood of knowledge into the minds of mainstream America is sure to move the bar in the direction of a healthier and more humanitarian future.

]]>So we are all adjusting to the presence of 5G in our lives in various ways. Then one day, you start hearing all this hype and excitement about 6G, or even 10G, being available now! This is a confusing and overwhelming message to process if we feel like we’ve finally found our strategies to cope with 5G. It makes you feel like they’re moving so fast that there’s no way you can keep up!
Our intention with this article is to clear up the hype and misleading information, and examine what’s actually true and what’s just marketing terminology designed to sell products and services instead of truly and accurately educating the public about current technology.
Xfinity 10G – are they already making 5G exponentially more powerful?
You may have heard about the Xfinity 10G service that is now available. Comcast (who provides the service) purchased advertising slots for their Xfinity service during the Super Bowl, so it has inevitably become all the rage of new internet services.
Since 5G is designed to be exponentially faster than 4G wireless service, does this mean that Comcast has broken through into hyperspace and jumped way ahead of everyone else? If so, is this service going to expose us to far more EMFs than the current 5G?
Not at all! The truth is, the ‘10G’ in the brand name is just a clever, and very misleading, marketing term.
You may know already that 5G means 5th Generation, referring to the fifth time that wireless technology has been redesigned and upgraded to support faster speeds and higher capacity data transfer.
10G, the term that Comcast is using for their new cable internet service, Xfinity, refers to the 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) download speeds that they strive to eventually provide to their customers. It’s not a wireless service at all, beyond the Wifi router that’s used to broadcast the service within the home of a subscriber. The actual internet service is delivered to the home through the same old fashioned coaxial copper cable wiring that gave us cable TV – just at much faster speeds.
It is obvious that this marketing term was created to make the product sound way more impressive than it actually is. It’s very misleading and confusing, unless you know exactly what it’s referring to, and is meant to create massive demand for what sounds like a cutting edge service. The truth is, this service cannot even offer anything close to its implied-via-advertising 10 gigabits per second download speeds – the maximum speed, if you get the most expensive plan they offer and it happens to be available in your area, is only 1.2 gigabits per second! Most plans they offer are considerably slower than that.
Besides the Wifi router that is almost always used to distribute this cable service to all the connected devices in the home, you will not be exposed to more EMFs from this service. The Wifi frequencies used to broadcast this cable service are within the usual Wifi range of 2.4 to 6 gigahertz (GHz), which is in the same frequency spectrum as mid band 5G. Since Wifi routers have a very small coverage area, then unless you have signed up for this service yourself, you won’t be getting exposed to much or any of the EMFs from the Wifi… maybe a little bit if your neighbor has the service and you can pick up their Wifi signal.
Another helpful thing to be aware of is if you get your internet through a cable network (or a fiber optic network), you always have the option to wire all your devices using ethernet cables, since all Wifi routers and most computers have ethernet ports. This will drastically reduce your daily EMF exposure, since there won’t be ambient radiofrequency radiation in the airspace of your home at all times. It will be concentrated and channeled through the cables instead of transmitted wirelessly.
Xfinity is claiming faster speeds than 5G wireless internet services, which is quite an easy accomplishment, since any up-to-date wired internet service will always be faster than wireless. Any copper cable internet, and fiber optic internet, are much better choices – for faster speeds AND for your health – than getting all your internet from the nearest 5G tower. It’s even better if you forego the Wifi and connect your devices directly through ethernet cables!
Another thing to note, if you’re starting to think this Xfinity service sounds great, is that there are several other cable service providers who are offering around the same speeds, or even faster speeds. Cable and fiber optic wired internet connections have always been, and always will be, faster and more reliable than wireless. The Xfinity cable service is just now choosing to highlight that they are faster than 5G, by making potential customers think they’ve revolutionized tech with their ‘10G’ service, which is really just about the same quality service as all other current cable and fiber optic internet options.
One more caution, if you’re considering signing up for a cable internet service like Xfinity, is that the Wifi options they provide will increase your EMF exposure because they run all three Wifi frequency bands – 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and now also 6 GHz – simultaneously, to limit interference between devices and therefore increase speeds. However, any cable or fiber optic internet service, including Xfinity, could be a great choice if you use ethernet instead of wireless!
What about 6G – is it here yet?
Another issue lately is there’s a lot of talk about 6G being already available in various places. 6G refers to 6th Generation wireless technology, the planned upgrade to the currently utilized 5G.
The first important thing to realize is that 6G is simply a marketing term, and what’s more relevant is what they actually mean by 6G – what frequencies are being used, how much antenna density needs to happen, and other aspects of the nature of 6G versus the current 5G.
According to Next G Alliance, who are spearheading wireless technology upgrades in the United States, plans to begin implementing 6G will start in 2030, at the very earliest. Even then, it will take many years to fully transition from the current 5G (which is still heavily reliant on 4G infrastructure) to 6G, and the two will coexist for many years.
Theoretically, 6G will implement speeds from 95 GHz up to 3 THz (terahertz). In reality, 6G doesn’t even exist yet. There are several problems that need to be overcome for these kinds of speeds to become a reality. The main issue with millimeter waves (95 GHz and higher) is they have a very short range, and are easily blocked by solid objects. The faster the frequency, the tighter its waveform is, so it just doesn’t have the width to move around objects like trees, or even penetrate denser atmospheric conditions like rain or even high humidity. Any frequency beyond 300 GHz (the maximum frequency that 5G plans on utilizing) is considered to be within the far infrared spectrum, and only has a range of several meters. If these frequencies were actually utilized, to provide uninterrupted service there would have to be antennas or repeaters placed every several meters! This would be unimaginably expensive and unsightly.
The most major hurdle to higher capacity wireless technology that tech companies are completely ignoring is the health effects. Even just the 5G that has been implemented so far, which is still only a small fraction of its full capacity, is causing health crises for a large number of people who didn’t previously realize they were sensitive to EMFs. As usage of higher frequencies (centimeter to millimeter waves) begins to happen in more places, and densification of antenna numbers continue, there will likely be a cascading effect of health issues that people will realize is being caused by radiofrequency radiation exposure. The planned widespread usage of millimeter waves in the high gigahertz to terahertz range that 6G proposes could result in such large scale health crises that there simply won’t be enough people feeling healthy and functional enough to utilize and enjoy the services, ultimately putting the telecoms out of business!
Will my Blushield still protect me when the next wireless generations come along?
We updated our technology a couple years ago, in response to the anticipated 5G rollout, to protect from frequencies up to 300 GHz. Previously, Blushield devices would emit a biologically coherent scalar field for a couple seconds at a time, then shut off until 30 seconds later, when the field would be emitted again for a couple seconds. For most types of EMFs, this on-and-off pattern offered plenty of coherent field exposure to protect the body.
However, centimeter and millimeter waves, as well as the beamforming nature specific to 5G creates a much more concentrated, intense effect on the body. Our response to this was to add another microprocessor, in addition to the classic Blushield on-and-off waveform, and this extra microprocessor produces a continuous scalar field based on Phi ratio patterns. The two microprocessors work in tandem, and the continuous field holds the body’s entrainment much more effectively in the presence of intense EMFs, like close range 5G.
Currently, 5G rarely operates past the 40 GHz spectrum, and usually at much lower frequencies than that (10-22 GHz seems common). While theoretically 5G will reach frequencies up to 300 GHz, there are significant limitations to the practicality of this, as we explained previously. The proposed 6G is unlikely to reach anywhere near 300 GHz for quite a while after its implementation. So for now, and throughout the next decade or longer, if you have any of our dual band home and portable devices, you are well protected against the frequency ranges currently in use!
The main concern at this point is antenna densification. That means adding more and more antennas to any given area, to provide continuous coverage for the shorter and more vulnerable wavelengths that 5G uses. The way we monitor antenna densification in any given area is by using the Antenna Search website. You can enter any address to find out how many cell towers and antennas are currently within a 3 mile radius of that address. Over the past few years since the 5G rollout began, we have noticed a considerable increase in antenna numbers almost everywhere.
All our dual band devices will protect from frequencies up to 300 GHz, but you will want to make sure that the Blushield model you have produces a field of a strong enough amplitude (strength) to match or exceed the density of EMFs you’re exposed to. That way, your body’s cells will be able to perceive (and entrain with) the Blushield instead of reacting to the harmful EMFs.
Please read our Blushield Product Guide to find out which Blushield home and portable models will give you optimal protection for your living situation and needs.

5G Explained and What It Means for Health and Humanity
In conclusion, you don’t need to worry much about additional EMFs from either 6G or the so-called “10G”! Just make sure your Blushield model is strong enough for your overall EMF exposure, switch to wired internet (instead of Wifi) if you can, and don’t fall for the telecommunications companies’ marketing hype!

The home and portable devices you choose should be mainly dependent on the overall EMF density of where you live and travel to often -- whether rural, small town, suburban area, medium or large city, or dense metropolitan area. We have different strength devices for areas of lesser or greater EMF density.
Our Phi Series models are perfect for rural areas and small towns (the Phi 2) and suburban areas and medium sized cities (the Phi 3). If you are in a low to moderate population density area, you are likely exposed to low to moderate levels of EMFs, and will do well with the Phi Series.
Our Premium and Ultimate Series models are designed for higher population densities, which almost always equate to higher EMFs. The B1 Premium Cube is great for moderate to high EMF levels in medium sized cities. The Premium Ultra and C1 Ultimate Cube are designed for large cities and dense metropolitan areas with high to extreme EMFs, including numerous nearby 5G antennas.
Our EVO Cube is in a league of its own, with more than 4 times stronger protection than the C1, and a completely new Phi-based frequency algorithm that's optimized for sleep support, relaxation, and mental agility. It is ideal for use while living or working in the most EMF dense metropolitan areas, or for anyone who wants the absolute strongest protection available.
If you still aren’t sure which one you need, please go to the Antenna Search website and plug in your home address, and take note of the results it gives you for the number of cell towers and antennas within 3 miles of you. This will give you a snapshot of the overall EMF exposure you’re living with, so you can determine the best Blushield model for your needs.
Our Blushield Product Guide goes into much more detail about the similarities and differences between each model, but here’s the cheat sheet version if you need an answer more quickly!
These numbers are just a guideline, so choose the one that most accurately describes your exposure level! Also, there is no harm in having more protection than you currently need, so a way to “future proof” your Blushield investment is to get a home unit that protects from a higher EMF density than where you currently live, just in case your area increases in EMFs in the near or longer term future. That way, you won’t have to upgrade your Blushield device!
If you leave your home often, you will be away from the protective field generated by your home Blushield, and you will want to have a portable device to bring with you, to make sure you’re still protected during short outings. The simplest answer to which portable you’ll want is if you have the Phi 2 or 3 home unit, choose the Phi 1 Portable, and if you have a Premium or Ultimate home unit, choose one of the stronger portables like the T1 Portable, U1 Portable, W1 Watch or X1 Pendant (please read the Blushield Product Guide to learn about the differences between these four portable models). However, it’s totally fine to match a Phi home device with an Ultimate portable, and vice versa!
Someone may assume that they can just buy a portable device, carry it with them everywhere and use it in place of a home unit, but there are several reasons why this is not ideal.
A portable only protects a small personal area, and it needs to be carried everywhere. It also needs to be recharged fairly often, and will not emit a protective field while charging. Generally, the portables are not strong enough to initially entrain the body to the Blushield field, but they are strong enough to maintain the resonance your body has previously established with a stronger home device, for shorter periods of time when you’re out and about.
Recognizing and entraining with the Blushield field is a lot like learning a new skill. At first, you will have to put effort and focus into developing the skill, but after you learn the skill, it’s much easier and almost automatic to repeat the skill once your body has the “muscle memory”! Likewise, your body’s cells will require a strong field to initially recognize and entrain with the Blushield field. Once it begins consistently resonating with this field, it will begin to expect the field’s presence everywhere you go. Although your portable’s field strength is just a fraction of the strength of your home unit, your body is already seeking out those field patterns specifically, so it will seek out and resonate with your portable’s field even if the other EMFs around you are comparably much stronger overall. You’ll just want to make sure you consistently “revisit” the strong field of your home unit, especially at night when you sleep, since sleep is when your body does most of its repair and regeneration.
A stationary device offers a larger area of protection, so one device will protect everyone in the house all of the time, and your front and back yards, as well. It does not require down time for recharging, and should last many years. It is a little more expensive than a portable, but only one is needed for each home or office. Remember, portables are designed to be used outside your plugin protected area, and are useful for traveling.
If you can only afford one device at first, it’s best to invest in a home unit to start, then think about portable protection later. If you can afford a bundle pack, you can save some money buying a home and portable device at the same time!
When you have placed your order on our website, it will usually ship within 1-2 business days (although it generally takes longer during holidays and sales/promotions), and usually arrives within 2-3 more business days using our standard shipping options. If you want to get your package quicker, you can choose the Expedited option. You will receive an email with your tracking number, and we recommend following your tracking updates so you will know when to expect the delivery of your package, since you will need to sign for the package. If you aren’t home to sign for it, usually the post office will hold onto it until you come pick it up in person. You can read our full Shipping Policy here.
Once you have received your order, you will want to get your devices plugged in and protecting you as soon as possible! Fortunately, this is a simple process. With your home device, you will just want to plug it into a standard wall outlet, and you will see a light on the device turn on, which means it’s now emitting its protective field!
Many people will place their home Blushield near the center of their home, but since the coverage radius is so large that it will protect your entire house anyway, you can put it wherever you want. Your main consideration should be making sure it's in a safe location where it won't get bumped or knocked over, tampered with by animals or children, or get wet or exposed to excessive humidity.
The home devices emit a spherical protective field that’s very large, and will easily cover the entirety of even a large house, including multiple stories, your front and back yards, and beyond! Also, the strength of the field is not diminished by walls, ceilings and floors, so it will be giving you the same level of protection if you’re right next to it as if you’re several rooms away.
To get started with your portable device, you will want to use the USB-C charger cord that comes with the device to fully charge it before your first use. This usually takes 1-3 hours, depending on the model. You will know it’s charging if you see a red light blinking on the device. This light will turn solid green when it’s fully charged, if you have a portable with no power button (the U1 or X1). If you have a portable that has a power button (like the T1, W1 Watch or U1 Limited Edition), the light will turn off once it’s fully charged.
If your portable has a power button, you will need to hold down the button for a couple seconds to turn the device on, and then you will see the light come on. If your portable has no power button, it will always be on and emitting a signal whenever the battery has some charge!
Blushield home and portables are designed to last! The stationary home units are designed to last many years, as long as they are well cared for. Make sure they are kept in a protected area, don't get wet or exposed to excessive humidity, and are protected from being bumped or knocked over.
Portable units should also ideally last several years, but due to the nature of portable devices, they are more likely to get damaged, just like a cell phone. You will want to keep your portable protected (our Blushield portable pouches can really help!), clean, and dry. Keeping it in a protected area in your purse, pocket or bag is ideal, and not mixed in with other items, where the charger port and power button could accumulate dirt and debris. The most common causes of damage are dropping it on a hard surface or submerging it in water, which our warranty doesn’t cover.
To protect the charging components inside your portable, you will want to avoid using “fast charger” cables and plugs to charge your portable. Be sure to only use the USB-C cable that comes with your portable device, or if you need to use a different one, make sure it has the same specifications (a 1 amp, 5 volt charger). Fast chargers can damage the device’s charging clip over time, as it protects the battery from excess voltage, which can overheat the clip and damage it over time. Also, it’s ideal to remove the portable from the charger soon after it’s fully charged, rather than letting it sit connected to the charger longer than it needs to.
If you have a portable with a power button, keep it turned off whenever you’re not using it to save battery life, ultimately increasing battery longevity. If your portable has no power button, the inherently fast charge time allows you to give it a quick 1-2 hour charge before you need to use it, and you can let the battery rest when you don’t need it.
All our newer models are considered “dual band” devices, while our older models are “mono band”. The mono band devices emit a frequency field for a couple of seconds at a time, repeating every 30 seconds, with an "on and off" rhythm.
With the dual band devices, we kept this original frequency algorithm, but added a second one as well, which works in tandem with the first one. The second frequency field is constantly on, except that every half minute it's interrupted by the original field. The dual band devices are designed to protect the body from more intense forms of EMF, like close range 5G, and also to help it regenerate more quickly from any exposure that may still be affecting the body.
Since 5G has become widespread, all of the stationary home devices we carry on our website now are dual band, as we are anticipating a continued increase in 5G exposure for most people, so we want to make sure that what we are providing now and into the future will give optimal protection! The only product in our store currently that still uses the mono band signal is the Auto unit.
Please note that the mono band devices do protect from general 5G exposure, but the dual band gives much better protection from close range 5G exposure, such as if you’re in direct line of sight or less than a quarter mile from one or more 5G antennas.
When you plug your dual band stationary home device into a power outlet, you should see a light come on close to where the power cord plugs into the device. That light should be solidly lit most of the time, but every half minute or so you will notice that it flickers for a couple of seconds. This is evidence of the dual band nature of the device – the flickering is when the standard Blushield algorithm is being emitted into the environment, and the solid light is the additional algorithm we added to the new models to give better protection against 5G.
To make sure your portable device is working properly, you will also want to look for the steady light that occasionally flickers, when the device is turned on. Remember that to turn it on, you will need to hold down the power button for a couple of seconds until the light comes on (unless your portable has no power button). Beyond that, please reference the Quick Start Guide that came with your portable device to learn about the slight differences in the behavior of each portable model.
Many people feel a difference immediately, or within the first couple of weeks. The differences can be subtle, or more dramatic in some cases. Some people feel nothing at all, because the changes are happening at the cell level and many people can't feel that tangibly, similar to how most people can't tangibly feel the harmful effects of EMFs.
Your experience will be unique to you, but the most commonly reported benefits we hear about are deeper sleep, more energy, improved mood and feeling of well being, and a reduction of various symptoms that may be attributable to EMF exposure like chronic headaches, body pain and inflammation, and even the alleviation of more serious symptoms and health issues. Many people who were previously unable to leave their house due to extreme EMF sensitivity find that they can comfortably go out again!
Even though most people don't experience detox symptoms, it's totally normal to experience some discomfort during the first couple of weeks. It's all dependent on each person's body and how they respond to the new frequencies. If the body has been spending a lot of energy "fighting" the harmful EMFs for a long time, and this stressor is suddenly removed, the body will go through a process where it reallocates immune power and energy to deeper processes in the body that need attention. This can sometimes result in a temporary increase in symptoms, before they taper off and resolve, if given the opportunity by continued exposure to coherent frequencies.
Nutrient dense foods, extra hydration with pure water, extra rest and naps, gentle movement, adaptogenic herbs like schizandra berry and chaga mushroom, and meditation or healthy stress relieving activities can really help to ease and speed up the acclimation process.
Commonly experienced longer term benefits of using Blushield are an improvement in overall resilience and vitality, and a decreased sensitivity to EMFs over time, even if one occasionally forgets their portable when they leave the house, or travels for several days without their stronger home device. It seems that over time, the body becomes better at “holding” the coherent frequency field for a longer period, and also simply has more vital energy available to deal with all kinds of modern stressors.
No, not at all. Since Blushield is not a blocking or shielding device, it won't interfere with the signal from other devices like your cell phone. Blushield provides protection directly at the cell level of living organisms. It exists alongside the EMFs emitted by your other devices (including cell phones and Wifi), but the Blushield gives your body a healthier option to resonate with, which removes the majority of the biological harm from the other EMFs.
We highly recommend traveling with your Blushield! You can safely bring your portable on airplanes, and that may be enough to protect you during short trips. If you are traveling for two or more nights, it’s best to take your home device with you as well, for optimal protection. Please read the article we wrote on traveling with Blushield if you want to learn more tips and tricks!
By this point, you should know a lot more about Blushield and how it works, and feel ready to use your Blushield devices with confidence! If there are any additional questions you have that were not covered by this article, our customer service team is always happy to assist you.
]]>Melatonin is also known as N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine. Most of the body’s melatonin is produced in the pineal gland, which is a small gland that resides in the middle of the brain, although not inside the blood brain barrier like most of the brain. Melatonin that is produced endogenously (by the body itself) begins from tryptophan (an essential amino acid) derived from dietary sources, then goes through several conversions that utilize nutrient cofactors also sourced from the diet, including niacin, magnesium, iron, vitamin C and zinc. If all of these nutrients are continually present in sufficient quantities, AND there is adequate darkness during the nighttime hours, melatonin will be secreted into the bloodstream in optimal amounts. One intermediary step in the conversion of tryptophan to melatonin within the pineal gland is the creation of serotonin, an essential neurotransmitter that regulates mood, memory, learning, body weight and much more.
Why is melatonin so important? Many consider melatonin to be one of the body’s master hormones, possibly even the single most important one, when considering all of its roles in the body. It is considered a neurohormone, which means that it’s secreted into the bloodstream for systemic use (like a hormone), but it also plays the role of a neurotransmitter. It can be considered to be the body’s master antioxidant, and it promotes the expression of other endogenous antioxidants like superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione. It has been proven to be twice as active as vitamin E, which is considered a lipophilic super antioxidant. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory substance, and has wide ranging systemic benefits to every single bodily system and function. The importance of this molecule cannot be overstated!
Melatonin is also considered the ultimate anti-stress hormone, since it opposes cortisol in the circadian cycle. Light stimulates cortisol, and darkness stimulates melatonin. Melatonin should be present in our bloodstream in adequate levels throughout the night, then when light reaches our eyes in the morning, this sends a message to our pineal gland to shut off melatonin production, triggering the production of cortisol in our adrenal glands. This gives us the energy boost and motivation needed to get out of bed and start our day. We actually want this cortisol boost in the morning hours, as it’s the “get up and go” hormone! However, too much cortisol later in the day is very stressful to the body, and prevents relaxation and healing.
Although much of the body’s melatonin is secreted in the pineal gland in response to darkness cues, there is a vast quantity of melatonin produced in the gut as a protective agent and to encourage the propagation of healthy gut flora. Additionally, melatonin is produced in all of the body’s mitochondria (which produce the energy that fuels every single bodily process), specifically to quench the oxidation and inflammation that’s an unavoidable byproduct of our cellular energy production itself. If melatonin is lacking in the mitochondria, toxic waste and inflammation will clog up our cells over time, leading to a systemic energy deficiency and toxic buildup.
Melatonin is a vital player in our immune function, to ensure that it responds quickly and strongly to fight off invaders, AND calms down as soon as the invaders are defeated. If the immune system is dysfunctional, it can overreact and continue to produce inflammatory cytokines even when the invading microbes are gone, contributing to dangerous chronic inflammation that can lead to autoimmune conditions and “cytokine storms”. As one of our main endogenous anti-inflammatory agents, it plays the role of calming unneeded inflammatory cytokines and restoring immune homeostasis to prevent exhaustion from an overactive or chronic immune response.
Melatonin is destroyed by light and EMFs
Now that we’ve established the vital importance of melatonin to our overall health, we need to acknowledge an unfortunate truth: several prominent aspects of our modern lifestyles considerably deplete melatonin. Early in the day, exposure to light is important and totally necessary to build up our serotonin reserves. Then, when darkness comes, a large quantity of this serotonin is converted to melatonin, flooding our bloodstream with that cozy, sleepy feeling, ensuring that we get adequate deep sleep at night. However, this natural circadian cycle is easily disrupted. If you are exposed to artificial light sources at night, specifically in the higher frequency blue and green portions of the light spectrum, melatonin release will be suppressed, and will not occur in optimal quantities to achieve deep sleep and the healing and regenerative cascade that results from adequate sleep. Also, when darkness is provided adequately at night and melatonin begins to be released into your bloodstream, and then you are suddenly exposed to light (like turning on a light to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night), it has been shown that melatonin in the bloodstream quickly disappears. Basically, light exposure inhibits melatonin release, and almost instantaneously destroys any melatonin that is currently circulating.
Fortunately, the effects of artificial light on melatonin has become much more widely known in recent years! There are several excellent solutions to this, including switching out your nighttime lighting to the orange or red light spectrum (which has little to no effect on melatonin), using dimmer switches to reduce the intensity of light in the evening hours, or wearing “blue blocking” glasses if you have to be exposed to the brighter spectrum of light after dark.
A much lesser known melatonin disruptor is electromagnetic fields. The exact mechanism of why EMFs decrease and interrupt melatonin production is not fully known, but it is theorized that the pineal gland perceives EMFs as a form of light that artificially stimulates wakefulness and prevents or interrupts restful sleep. Although the mechanism hasn’t been concretely established, there are quite a large number of studies that have established a causal relationship between EMFs and reduced melatonin levels.
Several studies have linked EMFs with reduced calcium ion homeostasis in cells, which also reduces melatonin as a byproduct. Disturbances in the sensitive voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) produce large quantities of free radicals, and it could be that melatonin, the body’s primary antioxidant, is being used up to quench this excessive oxidation, leaving very little melatonin left to be used for sleep, regeneration and other essential daily functions.
Here are a couple of reviews of many separate studies linking EMFs, VGCCs and reduced melatonin levels:
In addition to those, there are dozens more studies that separately link EMFs with reduced melatonin levels, and EMFs with voltage-gated calcium channel disturbances. The studies that have linked EMF exposure with VGCC disturbance (especially Dr. Martin Pall’s research) found that it’s something about the way these artificial EMFs are structured (how they are modulated and pulsed to carry wireless information) that causes the calcium channel flooding and resulting oxidative stress. This may be why natural electromagnetic fields from the Earth and cosmos do not have the same harmful effect – they are structured differently, and the body generally does not perceive these natural frequencies as a threat, with some exceptions (excessive ionizing radiation from the sun, and geopathic stress caused by specific areas of disturbance in the Earth’s magnetic field).
Optimal melatonin levels protect from the harmful effects of EMFs
It has been established that modern day artificial electromagnetic fields reduce our endogenous melatonin production, most likely through the mechanism of calcium channel flooding. In an ultimate catch 22 situation, many other studies have also established that optimal melatonin levels have powerful protective effects against these exact same EMFs.
Just to clarify, one of the most powerful natural substances capable of protecting us from EMF harm is being actively depleted by these same EMFs! This is definitely a conundrum.
Here are just a few (of many!) studies that demonstrate the protective effects of melatonin against harm from electromagnetic fields:
What can we do about this? Obviously, protecting our melatonin becomes vitally important, especially if we are EMF hypersensitive, or simply interested in optimal health and longevity. The vicious cycle of EMF induced melatonin depletion and the subsequent increase in oxidation and inflammation, which leads to increased EMF reactivity, needs to be halted for balance to be achieved.
Since this stress cycle has been well underway for a long time for most modern humans, and our lifestyles inherently increase this stress from multiple angles, achieving homeostasis needs to be a multifaceted approach.
The “melatonin pyramid” found in this melatonin study is quite helpful for understanding the multiple steps that need to be taken to optimize melatonin levels:
Obviously, the most important factor in optimal natural melatonin production is having adequate darkness at night. This means you need to protect your sleep space by ensuring there are no lights in your bedroom, and that you aren’t exposed to any bright lights during the night – a small red light can be helpful if you need to use a nightlight during the night. This also means you want to keep your home lights as dim as possible within a couple hours of bedtime. Having a cap on electronic device use at night is also important, as our computer and cell phone screens emit very high frequency blue light. If you need to look at your phone or computer in the evening, there are dimming mechanisms and apps you can use to reduce the brightness of your screen to as low levels as possible.
Next, to ensure that your body has the raw materials to produce enough melatonin, make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet, especially tryptophan. The body cannot synthesize tryptophan and needs to get it from dietary sources. Additionally, your body needs plenty of the vitamin and mineral cofactors mentioned at the beginning of this article, which are essential in the conversion from tryptophan to serotonin and melatonin, so eating a nutrient rich diet is essential!
Consuming plenty of anti-inflammatory foods helps take the burden off your melatonin, so it isn’t solely responsible for quenching all oxidative stress in your body, making more melatonin available for other essential processes. Also, many plant foods (including nuts, cherries and rice) contain small amounts of melatonin, since plants produce melatonin as part of their own defense against oxidative stress. By eating these plants, we can get minute amounts of melatonin directly, bypassing the normal conversion process.
Lastly, if we really need a boost to get back on track, there are high quality melatonin supplements on the market that can be worth experimenting with. Melatonin is extremely well studied, has a high safety profile, and contrary to common belief, supplementing does not decrease your endogenous melatonin production.
Using Blushield to protect your melatonin
Of course, there is one more section we would add to the melatonin pyramid: using Blushield devices in your home, especially at night during sleep!
As noted above, manmade electromagnetic fields (especially from wireless devices) cause calcium channel flooding, massively increasing oxidative stress, but natural electromagnetic fields from the Earth do not have this effect. Blushield devices emit a field that’s very similar to the frequencies found in nature, and have been shown in our human and animal tests to calm the overactive immune response and restore normal cellular function. As a byproduct, this will protect and conserve our melatonin levels, as our melatonin will not need to be used up to quench the stress from the EMFs!
One of the most common reports we get from Blushield users is deeper and more restful sleep, either immediately or after the initial acclimation period. This is most likely due to the increase in available melatonin that the body is no longer using up to quench the fires of oxidation due to our own excessive immune response, which can then be used for the vital regenerative process of sleep. Consistent high quality sleep improves health in every way, and can protect against chronic and degenerative disease.
One of the beautiful things about the winter months is the increased hours of darkness, which under ideal circumstances would allow us to deeply restore and regenerate our bodies from the stresses of the brighter, more active times of the year, healing and preparing us for another cycle of increased light and activity! Optimizing our sleep during the winter is an amazing health and longevity strategy that takes nature’s own most powerful cycle into consideration.

Every single one of those towers and antennas emits a radiofrequency field. When you’re in an airport, or inside of a plane waiting for takeoff, you are exposed to the EMFs from all of the radiofrequency emissions around you.
Even inside the airplane itself, while flying, you are being exposed to more radiation than ever before. To “better serve” their clients, airlines are providing stronger and stronger in-flight Wifi connections, and there are plans to equip many airlines with Starlink satellite internet soon (beginning in mid 2023), for even faster internet! Starlink operates within the high band spectrum of 5G, between 10 and 72 gigahertz, which has a high powered, laser-focused mode of operation that can affect living organisms in the vicinity of its “beam” much more intensely than lower frequencies.
With passengers all packed together in a tight space, almost all of them using in-flight Wifi or other electronic devices, we have an EMF soup situation. Then you have to factor in the airplane itself, which is basically a Faraday cage that contains all EMFs produced within its walls, not allowing them to leave the massive aluminum tube that is the airplane itself. Instead, all those radiofrequency signals end up reflecting off the metal walls back into the same space, increasing exposure by at least 3 times compared to the same signal density in an open area.
To boot, we are exposed to the cosmic radiation from space at a much higher intensity at the high altitude of commercial air travel, which in itself gives our bodies a higher radiation load to process and recover from. All of this occurs after most of us get a large, sudden dose of radiation from walking through the airport body scanners, which use the same millimeter wave spectrum as high band 5G!
No wonder we feel terrible after we fly! We think it’s just “jet lag”, but the effects of this much EMF are bound to zap our energy, and at the beginning of what we intended as a fun, relaxing holiday vacation, all we feel like doing is hiding and sleeping it off.
This is also a major reason for the phenomenon of increased illness during or after travel. The high EMF load depresses our immune system, taking down our body’s defenses and increasing the likelihood that we will get sick from any little bug we encounter during our travels.

So who is Faraday, and why is his cage such an important invention? We will have to go back to a time when no one was thinking about EMF protection, and the first experiments with electricity were being done by some very curious genuises!
In the 1800s, English scientist Michael Faraday made some revolutionary discoveries about electricity. He is often called the “Father of Electricity” because he discovered that a changing magnetic field produces an electric field. Rather than observing or producing just electric energy, or just magnetic energy, this new understanding enabled us to intentionally produce electric and magnetic fields together, which is considerably more functional and dynamic. EMFs are called electromagnetic fields because there’s always an electric field and a magnetic field existing together, each perpetuating the other.
A conductor that’s placed inside a changing magnetic field (or moving through a stationary one) produces voltage across the conductor, which is called electromagnetic induction. This is also called Faraday’s Law in modern physics, since the phenomenon was first observed and described by Michael Faraday.
Faraday also discovered that an electric current aimed at a conductive metal container would distribute its charge across the entire surface of the box, without passing through the container into the inside. Therefore, the inside of the box was basically a “dead zone” with no measurable fields. Faraday reproduced an earlier experiment by Benjamin Franklin that was based on the same principles, but Faraday took it much further with several variations, all showing the same results, and actually explained the mechanism. He built a room coated with metal foil, and standing inside of it himself, allowed high-voltage discharges from an electrostatic generator to strike the outside of the room. He used an electroscope to show that there was no electric charge present on the inside of the room's walls.
Modern Faraday cages come in many forms, and are used for many purposes. They can be made from sheets of solid metal, or mesh, cage or grid-like patterns full of small or large holes. They can be made from many types of metal, as long as the metal is marginally to highly conductive. Common shielding materials include copper, silver, gold, aluminum, steel, and brass. Although steel is far less conductive than electron-rich precious metals like silver and copper, its practicality and low cost makes it a good choice for many kinds of Faraday cages.
You may not realize it, but you are likely utilizing and interacting with Faraday cages every day! Cars and airplanes act as Faraday cages, due to the metal frames and exterior paneling inherent to their design. This is why you can be driving your car in a lighting storm, and are still safe from being struck by lightning – if it did happen to strike your car, the high voltage current would distribute its charge across the entire outside surface of the metal panels, then pass into the ground below, while everything inside the car is completely unaffected.
It’s the same situation when you’re flying in an airplane. Did you know that lighting strikes airplanes all the time? Even if you fly a lot, you may not know this, because you are completely protected when you’re inside the plane, and likely wouldn’t even notice if your plane was struck! The outer “skin” of an airplane is primarily made of aluminum, which is highly conductive.
Microwave ovens are also Faraday cages, although they work in reverse by containing their electromagnetic energy inside the oven, so it won’t leak out and dissipate. Of course, we recommend never using microwave ovens to cook food, but if you have a microwave hanging around, you could always use it to store your sensitive electronics inside the unplugged device, to protect them from being harmed by natural or artificial electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) that can fry your technology!
There are also many uses for entire rooms that are Faraday cages: MRI rooms in hospitals are completely shielded to ensure that the high powered magnetic and radiofrequency diagnostic imaging won’t be contaminated with stray electromagnetic radiation from other sources. Militaries and governments use shielded bunkers and vehicles to safeguard critical systems from solar storms and manmade EMP attacks, and to protect sensitive communications from electronic eavesdropping. Science labs that perform rigorous clinical studies use fully shielded rooms to create a neutral testing environment, free of outside electromagnetic influences.
Power utility lineman who work with high voltage electricity and live wires wear special conductive (shielded) suits woven with ultra fine silver fibers, protecting them from potentially deadly electric shocks.
When it comes to EMF protection applications, shielding and Faraday cages can offer some protection, under the right circumstances. However, there are some limitations that need to be considered, so you can use shielding methods appropriately, without deriving a false sense of security by believing you’re more fully protected than you are.
Faraday cages and shielding materials can only block or attenuate (reduce) some kinds of frequencies, and their effectiveness will also depend on the size of the holes in the material, and how much coverage the material gives to what you’re trying to protect.
The holes in the shielding materials have to be significantly smaller than the wavelength size of the frequencies they are designed to block, so higher frequencies (with shorter wavelengths) in the microwave and radiofrequency spectrum require extremely small holes, or a continuous material with no holes, to be blocked effectively. A traditional Faraday “cage”, or a mesh or a grid, may block the extremely low frequency (ELF) fields from your home electricity, but a cell phone signal will pass through it easily.
A full Faraday cage that completely surrounds a person or device, and which is made of solid, thick conductive metal, will offer fairly complete protection from measurable electromagnetic fields. It will keep all external electromagnetic fields on the outside, and all internal ones on the inside of the cage. If you invest in expensive shielding paint for your bedroom, and use several layers to ensure that the metal particulate in the paint is distributed as thoroughly as possible, and your room has no windows, then your cell phone or Wifi router should not work at all from within the room. If it does, you aren’t getting complete protection.
If you put a full Faraday cage over the top of your Wifi router or smart electric meter, those devices should no longer work at all, since they rely on wireless signal transmission to do their job. Likewise, if you store your cell phone in a shielded case, you should not be able to receive a call on your phone. It should render your wireless communication devices completely unusable. This is not practical or desirable, unless you just want to store your phone in a shielded case to protect it from an EMP (or for cybersecurity and privacy purposes) when you’re not using it.
To remain practical, most shielding products are not full Faraday cages. They are usually designed to block the frequencies on just one side of the device, which is often the side that touches your body, like with shielded phone cases. The actual protection you get from this kind of product is fairly low, and you would be better off keeping your phone further away from your body, or turning it on airplane mode (or off completely) if you have to carry it in your pocket. Likewise, Wifi and smart meter shields are made of metal mesh with tiny holes, so that most of the RF radiation is blocked, but there's still enough getting through so the devices can emit the RF fields needed to remain functional.
Clothing made from shielded materials, like woven silver fibers, offers somewhat more protection, as it will protect the body parts it covers from all ambient EMFs, not just your phone like a shielded phone case does. However, since your entire body is conductive, the ambient EMFs will still reach unprotected body parts and enter your body through your skin (since your pores act as antennas), traveling through your electromagnetically active nervous system. Our bodies are not just a bunch of separate parts, but are an integrated whole, so anything that affects one part of our body will ultimately affect our whole body. This is one reason you wouldn’t want to rely on shielded clothing as your primary form of EMF protection, but only as an adjunct to more complete forms of protection, like Blushield home and portable devices.
Another consideration with complete Faraday cages is that in addition to blocking the unwanted EMFs, they will also block a portion of the beneficial natural EMFs from the Earth and cosmos, including the Schumann resonances. These frequencies are considered essential to the health and natural rhythms of life on Earth, and we do not want to block them. Shielding materials won’t block the Earth’s magnetic field (since they cannot block static magnetic fields), but there is an entire symphony of natural beneficial frequencies that you won’t be able to benefit from if you’re inside a Faraday cage.
There is one final consideration when it comes to the limitations of shielding, and is the most important one, in our opinion. Every measurable electromagnetic field that exists has both a transverse component and a scalar component. The transverse component of the EMF is the part that you can measure with an EMF meter. It is the part that exists materially in 3D space, and can be blocked by Faraday cages and shielding materials.
However, as we have discussed at length in previous articles, every EMF also has a scalar component, which could be described as the “essence” of the field, or the pure energy and potential behind the material manifestation of moving physical electrons. This pure energy moves through the space between atoms, so cannot be blocked by physical shielding materials. The scalar component of an EMF can also be considered to be an information field, containing the blueprint of whatever information the field is carrying or transmitting. Scalar fields are highly bioactive, affecting the body considerably more than the transverse, measurable, “block-able” portion of the field!
Scalar fields can be produced intentionally, or unintentionally as a byproduct of a transverse field. Manmade EMFs from wireless devices use a transverse carrier signal to transmit information, and the scalar component of this field is unintentionally transmitted as well, carrying biologically incoherent information that our bodies pick up on and react to. When we use shielding to block external EMFs, the scalar component of that EMF will still get through, and will still affect us.
While all measurable (transverse) fields have a scalar component, that is not the case with scalar fields. There can be “pure scalar” fields, which are pure informational/blueprint fields that aren’t bound by the same rules of space and time that physically manifest frequencies are subject to.
Blushield technology uses pure scalar as the carrier signal for its multiple waveform algorithms based on natural frequencies and patterns. This allows our bodies to perceive and entrain with these beneficial fields much more easily (since scalar is more bioactive), and the field is not limited by the properties of transverse fields, which lose power over distance and are easily blocked or attenuated by physical obstructions.
If you placed your Blushield inside of a full Faraday cage, it would still work just as well! Your body will still perceive the field. This would also be the case if you were inside a shielded room, and your Blushield was plugged in somewhere outside the room. Your body would still pick up on the field, even though the transverse carrier signals used by cell phones and Wifi would no longer get through.
The truth is that we are in constant community with many types of frequencies, at all times, and we will be for our entire lives. Instead of trying to block out the frequencies around us, a more effective solution is to introduce an additional frequency field into our environment that is biologically coherent, which our bodies can then preferentially seek out and choose to resonate with.
The majority of us do not want to completely cut ourselves off from the outside world and try to live in a bubble, but would prefer to develop a healthy relationship with the world around us. Along with living comes exposure to many frequencies, including a variety of beneficial and harmful ones, and we just need the tools to maximize our resilience and vitality, so we can handle anything that comes our way in life with more ease.

Passive vs. Active EMF Protection
Scalar Energy & EMF – What You Need To Know
Scalar Energy, Biology & Consciousness
Let’s start with the most well established danger in most people’s kitchens: microwave ovens. Fortunately, these devices have been studied extensively for their effects on the quality, nutrient density and toxicity of the food cooked in them, as well as on life forms that consume that food, and even the effects of being in close proximity to these high powered devices.
Microwave ovens operate in the microwave segment of the electromagnetic spectrum, around 2.45 gigahertz – around the same frequency as Wifi. 2.45 gigahertz is 2.45 billion hertz, or 2.45 billion cycles per second. This means the frequency oscillation occurs over 2 billion times in one second, for every second your microwave is operating! This is happening inside of any food item you place in a microwave to cook or heat up.
The microwave itself is basically a Faraday cage that does not allow (most) of the radiation to leave the inside of the device, and concentrates on the inside. When you turn it on to heat up some food, this extremely intense level of radiation goes into the food, exciting the molecules in the food itself, over two billion times per second. Agitating the molecules of the food so intensely produces heat as a side effect, thereby “cooking” the food. It also tears the molecules apart and deforms them, and can even separate the charge of the atoms, causing them to lose electrons (ionize).
Ionizing atoms can produce free radicals, which are displaced electrons that aggressively seek out new atoms to attach to. They are unstable and highly reactive. In the body of living organisms, excess free radicals cause oxidative stress, which can lead to DNA damage and even cell mutation into malignant forms. If you’re consuming food that contains higher than usual amounts of free radicals, over a long period of time, this will not fare well for long term health.
The radiation from microwave ovens can cause a massive (as much as 60-90%) reduction of bioavailable nutrients in the food, including the B complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, and essential minerals. One study showed that microwaved broccoli lost 97% of its beneficial antioxidants, which makes sense considering antioxidants are neutralizers of free radicals. Broccoli that was steamed on a stove top only lost 11% of its antioxidants.
Microwaved milk loses most of its beneficial bacteria that normally keeps harmful bacteria in check, and that milk was found to be 18 times more susceptible to E.coli contamination than unheated raw milk. Microwaving meat causes the formation of well known carcinogens called d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, and microwaving vegetables turns many of their natural alkaloids into carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substances.
Several studies have been done showing live plants that were watered with microwaved (then cooled) water have stunted growth and poor health compared to plants that are watered using the same type of water that wasn’t microwaved – even if it was heated (then cooled) on a stove top first. Many people have reproduced the results of these studies in home based experiments, which have been widely shared on internet forums.
There have even been blood tests done on animals and humans fed microwaved food versus food cooked using other methods, and the blood of those who consumed microwaved food consistently showed a considerable reduction in blood hemoglobin, lower red blood cell count, and far more susceptibility to bacterial contamination. Studies where rats were fed microwaved food showed damage to the pancreas, and a drastic reduction of antioxidant enzyme activity in the brain and liver.
Another unacknowledged danger is the fact that the rubber seals on the doors of microwaves degrade over time, leaking larger amounts of microwave radiation as the device ages. If a person is standing near their microwave when it’s turned on, they may be exposed to levels of radiation thousands of times stronger than their cell phone or Wifi router, and well past even the conventionally accepted safety levels!
Sadly, all of this is still not common knowledge in the mainstream, and many people still use microwaves without any awareness of the potential dangers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that 90% of American households own a microwave. The information regarding its dangers has been available for decades now, but unfortunately is not being reported by governments or mainstream news outlets, and there haven’t been product recalls based on this information, so the majority of Americans still have no clue.
Although nothing is more convenient than popping a dish into a microwave oven and coming back to a fully cooked meal 2-10 minutes later, I think you would agree after considering all the above information about the dangers, this slight increase in convenience is not even remotely worth it!
If you’re used to using a microwave, it may take some initial effort to change your habits, but there are other methods you can use to accomplish the same goals without too much compromise to your time and energy.
Conventional electric stove tops do produce heat using electricity, but this will just show up as a localized electric field operating at the 60 hertz frequency of mains power. The ambient electric field will occupy the space that your food is being heated in, but only passively, and does not directly manipulate the food itself. Also, it is millions of times slower/lower of a frequency than what microwaves produce. Underneath your electric stove top is a coil that receives electrical power to heat up, and then the pot/pan and food is heated by the infrared heat emanating from the hot coil, not from the electromagnetic field itself. Infrared heat is the same energy that burning wood emits, as well as the heat that comes from the sun. As humans, we are much more adapted to this kind of ancient, primordial radiation than the artificial radiation sources of modern times.
This ambient, passive EMF exposure is not the case for a different type of stove called an induction cooktop. Besides microwave ovens, induction stoves are one of the few other cooking methods we would caution against, because of how they work to channel electrical energy directly into your cooking pot or pan, and the high (kilohertz) frequencies that are used. Conventional electric stoves emit heat as a byproduct of the electric field, whereas induction stoves include your metal pot or pan as an essential part of the electromagnetic circuit itself, channeling the EMFs directly into the pot, which then heats up and cooks your food. Because the pot/pan is part of the electric circuit in this case, you can only use cookware made of ferromagnetic (iron based) materials on induction stoves, whereas you can use any material cookware (including ceramic, clay and tempered glass) on regular stoves.
An extra risk to using induction cooktops is if you touch the handle of your pot while it’s on the stove, your body also becomes part of the electromagnetic circuit that’s heating the pot! Although it won’t noticeably shock you like touching a high voltage circuit, it will channel these kilohertz frequencies through your body, exposing you to the full EMF load the appliance is producing.
Back to electric stoves: if you’re used to heating up cold coffee in your microwave, it should be fairly easy to get into the habit of reheating your beverage in a small pot or teapot on your stove. You can also keep beverages warm for long periods of time in a thermos or insulated mug.
It’s equally simple to cook packaged soups, canned beans, and other healthy prepared foods on your stove instead of in your microwave. The “instant” microwaveable meals that are on the market are usually packaged in plastic, and that plastic leaches into your food as you cook it in your high powered microwave, contaminating your food with toxic, hormone disrupting chemicals… just another reason to give up that microwave for good!
Other convenient, moderate EMF quick cooking options include toaster ovens, air fryers and electric tea kettles. Air fryers utilize a unique cooking method of convection (moving and circulating) heat that creates a crispy and flavorful end product fairly quickly, whereas microwave ovens detrimentally affect both the flavor and texture of food.
The biggest modern craze in mainstream homes is a “smart” everything: smart beds, smart doorbells, baby monitors, and even smart refrigerators, ovens, toasters and coffee makers! While some of these can have pretty major benefits (like wireless security cameras that are connected to your doorbell, which you can access anytime from your phone), most just seem like curiosities that may save a few minutes here and there, possibly at the expense of your long term health and well being.
Do you really need a coffee maker that will brew you a cup while you’re laying in bed playing with your coffee maker phone app, sending a Wifi signal through your house just so you don’t have to get up and do it yourself? Or a stove you can preheat from a wireless phone app while you’re on your way home from work? These things may not seem like a big deal, but every single “smart” appliance in your home produces its own little radio-frequency field, increasing the overall EMF pollution in your home. Your home is supposed to be a sanctuary of relaxation and recovery, but if your body is under constant low level stress from ambient EMFs from dozens of sources, it will be anything but that.
If you do have smart appliances, you could always just keep the Wifi setting disabled (or never set up the Wifi capabilities and app in the first place), and you should be safe from unwanted RF radiation.
The materials of your cookware may not seem EMF related, but it’s important to understand that many EMF sensitive folks are also sensitive to other toxic environmental stressors, including chemicals that are commonly found in homes. Experts on the subject have found that if someone has Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), they are also very likely to be EMF hypersensitive. Reducing chemical exposure in the home as much as possible will take a large burden off these peoples’ extra sensitive systems, making it easier for them to deal with the stress from EMFs that they can’t control nearly as easily.
Avoiding any cookware that’s promoted as “non-stick”, as well as aluminum cookware, is a good start. Many pans, rice cookers, crock pots and other ceramic cookware are coated with a non-stick surface, which is usually a polymer coating called PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). When heated to high temperatures, this coating can break down and release toxic fumes, and become infused into the food you eat. It’s better to create a natural non-stick surface on your pans by cooking with healthy oils. You can replace aluminum baking dishes with stainless steel or glass.
A wonderful alternative to chemical glazed crock pots and rice cookers is a high tech, powerful product on the market called VitaClay, which cooks food in a non-toxic, unglazed clay pot. Instead of chemical glazing, the clay is sealed using a very high temperature water glazing process. The clay cooking pot can improve the quality, texture and flavor of your food, and can cook using a wide range of methods and types of meals. It preserves nutrients much better than a pressure cooker, and cooks food about four times faster than a crock pot or slow cooker.
In the modern, convenience-focused homes most of us live in, being exposed to a certain level of EMFs from our cooking appliances is almost inevitable. However, there are a few cooking methods that are good to know about, if you live a less conventional and more earth-based lifestyle, or strive to in the future! These technologies can even be implemented in a modern home, with the right planning and expertise. If you are highly EMF sensitive and want to remove EMFs from your life as much as possible, these are options to seriously consider.
One zero EMF cooking appliance that’s still fairly prevalent is the gas powered stove. Many older houses still use gas ranges, which produce no electromagnetic fields, as the food is heated by the infrared heat byproduct of the gas fueled flame. Propane stoves are another option, and are generally safer to use than gas stoves. Propane also heats faster and uses less fuel than gas.
Moving closer to an earth-based lifestyle, there are wood stoves and rocket stoves, which are heated using firewood. There are some very smart and strategic designs out there that maximize function, efficiency and aesthetics. Well designed rocket stoves, in particular, are extremely efficient in combusting almost all the fuel from the wood with the absolute minimum production of smoke and soot. They can serve multiple vital functions in a home – acting as an efficient cooking surface that uses locally sourced renewable materials (firewood), as well as a powerfully effective way to heat your home in the colder seasons that can replace electric and gas heating in the right circumstances, even in the coldest of climates!
The radiation from wood fires is a full spectrum light and heat source (especially infrared) that’s very healthy for the body, as long as exposure to smoke (from incomplete combustion) is avoided.
Considering how much time most of us spend in the kitchen, especially those who value wholesome, home cooked meals, we think it’s important to have an understanding of the electromagnetic exposure levels and types we are getting from the various ways we prepare our food, so we can cook more consciously.
Although most types of cooking methods will expose us to some ambient electric and magnetic fields, there are definitely ways to minimize exposure, especially by reducing or eliminating radiofrequency/microwave radiation from our kitchens. Those who are EMF sensitive will appreciate knowing about ways to keep their food as nutrient dense, healthy and low EMF as possible.
You are what you eat – if you’re eating food that’s exposed to intense EMFs, that will definitely affect and alter the digestibility, nutrient density and toxicity of that food.
You will almost definitely still have exposure to some localized electric and magnetic fields in your kitchen. If you consider your overall EMF exposure, and choose a Blushield home model that’s the appropriate strength for your living situation, these low frequency, localized exposures can become a non-issue for most people.
We want to help you make your home into the sanctuary it is supposed to be!

What is electromagnetic hypersensitivity?
“All over the world, electro-hypersensitive people are hiding in the most remote, isolated, forgotten and desperate places. It is towards these sensitive human beings that I will ask you on June 16, 2022 to show solidarity and to carry the voice of those who can no longer do so by showing your support for this cause that concerns us all!”
What can you do to raise awareness?
The World EHS Day website has some great suggestions for raising awareness in the general public about something that’s affecting all of us, even though it’s invisible. Although these people feel extreme effects from this harmful environmental element, that doesn’t mean that everyone who feels nothing is immune. Electromagnetic fields have detrimental effects on ALL life forms! As EMF sources and levels increase over time, which is definitely happening all throughout the developed world in an exponential way, more and more people are going to start to feel it, and some will even become debilitated by it.
How can EHS sufferers heal and recover?
Although the healing process can be complex and prolonged, many EHS sufferers have found relief by minimizing exposure while simultaneously increasing resilience through nutrition and lifestyle changes, and introducing Blushield home and portable devices into their lives.Read more about EHS here.

The most peculiar thing about longitudinal waves is they do not exist in a “normal”, physically manifest sense, in what we know as 3D space. Although our modern EMF meters cannot measure scalar energy, the phenomenon can be documented in other ways, through the effects it has in the material world.
Let’s compare longitudinal waves to transverse waves, to see how they’re different. First of all, some scientists and engineers who study scalar do not like using the term “wave” for this energy field, because it does not act like what we think of as a wave. However, based on the standard physics definition of a wave, it definitely is one: “A disturbance traveling through a medium by which energy is transferred from one particle of the medium to another without causing any permanent displacement of the medium itself.”
There are other scientists and engineers who do not agree with using the term scalar for this energy field. However, we think this term is acceptable, and can be correctly used because a scalar (in physics) is a quantity that is fully described by magnitude alone, versus a vector quantity, which includes both a magnitude and a direction.
Since scalar waves do not move in a specific direction in 3D space, they cannot be a quantified as a vector, like transverse waves can. This is why they’re also sometimes called standing waves – because they appear to “stand” in the same space, without moving in any direction.
However, scalar waves DO move, in a very unique way! Beyond our three dimensional, material world, time itself is referred to as the 4th dimension. Obviously, as we all know instinctively, time has a profound effect on three dimensional space! Time is not part of 3D space, even though 3D space couldn’t exist without it, which we could call spacetime: “the concepts of time and three-dimensional space regarded as fused in a four-dimensional continuum.”
Scalar/longitudinal waves move along the axis of time itself, which you can understand intuitively by the fact that the field persists as time goes on.
These “waves” do not move in the same up/down motion as transverse waves. As the term longitudinal suggests, they move parallel to the direction of propagation, not perpendicular to it. There are variations in the energy density as the wave moves through time, which can be defined as compressions (when the energy becomes denser and closer together) and rarefactions (when the energy becomes less dense and further apart).
You could think of these compressions and rarefactions, moving through time, like the beating of a heart (with its contractions and dilatations) or the rhythm of our breath. A longitudinal wave can be described as a pulse perturbation (a small disturbance), referring to the rhythmic compression and expansion of the energy as it persists through time.
There are ways to generate scalar fields intentionally for specific purposes. A pure scalar field without the transverse component is automatically created anytime two electromagnetic waves that are in exactly the opposite phase (but same frequency and amplitude) meet, thereby canceling each other out. This creates a vortex effect, imploding the charge into its longitudinal orientation. This process of combining two exact mirror image waves (that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other) can be called phase conjugation.
All life forms produce their own electromagnetic energy, which couples with (and guides) the chemical messengers in the nervous system, in what could be considered a living electrochemical system. This system runs every single function of our bodies, including growth, healing, and even regeneration in certain instances. This bioelectricity can be measured with extremely sensitive instruments, at levels millions of times more subtle than what a conventional EMF reading tool could pick up.
Robert O. Becker’s revolutionary book, The Body Electric, documents the fascinating discovery process and the many experiments that were done in the ‘60s and ‘70s to dig deeper into living biology and its ever present electromagnetism, establishing with certainty that we are electrical beings!
Even with all the questions that are answered, and the many ‘aha!’ moments, the book leaves readers with a sense of wonder and mystery at the complexity of life, and Becker often marveled at the mysteries that still remained. Interestingly, with his focus on measurable frequencies (even with extremely sensitive instruments), it’s very likely he was not at all aware of the scalar aspect of electromagnetism. It’s not a long stretch to postulate that most (or all!) of the questions he left unanswered could be answered somewhere in scalar science!
According to Patrick Flanagan (a scientist and inventor), “the living system is infinitely more responsive to scalar signals.” This is likely due to the predominance of scalar in our own biology, compared to the extremely small emissions of measurable, transverse fields. Scalar emitted by biological organisms is called bioscalar, and occurs widely throughout nature. Just as scalar fields can be generated intentionally by devices producing opposite phase EM waves that meet and cancel each other out, this also occurs naturally when similar frequency waves in the environment meet from two different vectors.

Thomas Bearden, one of the most well known scalar scientists of our time, believed that the scalar energy in living organisms resides in the nucleus of the atom, and is a repository for information. Human thought emits various complex frequencies that alter the electrical signals in the brain and body. Our thoughts and intentions may be working directly with the scalar energy inside our atomic nuclei, by changing the information frequencies that our scalar fields hold, which ripples out to affect our body as a whole. There are many examples of healers doing “impossible” things (according to the modern medical system), just by directing their thoughts and intentions in skillful ways!
A study that was done that applied longitudinal fields to plants, designed by scalar energy expert Konstantin Meyl, found that the ones exposed to the field showed increased ATP levels and extended lifespans, compared to the control group.
The body’s electrochemical system is extremely sensitive. As you already know if you have read our educational material about the harms of manmade repetitive EMF sources, one notable harmful effect of EMFs is increased incidence of certain types of cancer. These aren’t just any types of cancer – by far the most common cancers that have been found from excessive, prolonged use of cell phones is gliomas of the brain, and Schwannomas of the heart.
As Becker found through experimentation, and detailed in his book, all nerve cells are surrounded by protective sheaths. It was previously believed that these sheaths only provided insulation and protection, but it turns out that the sheath cells that surround the nerve cells are the exact location of the electrical currents that move through the nervous system! These nerve sheath cells are called glial cells in the brain and central nervous system, and Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. Therefore, it’s no surprise, and certainly not a coincidence, that most of the cancers from overexposure to EM radiation specifically arise in the cells where the body’s own electricity moves.
Becker’s most pressing unanswered question seems to be how to induce considerable regenerative capability in the human body. Some animals naturally have pretty extraordinary regenerative abilities, such as salamanders, newts and zebrafish, but in all experiments so far, humans don’t seem to have this capability in more than very limited circumstances.
Although much of modern science wants to view the body as a machine, with many separate parts, and consciousness itself as an unknown (or as a random occurrence), it is clear that biology and consciousness are intricately linked, and even one and the same: the bodymind.
Patrick Flanagan found that IQ is a measure of neural efficiency, which is reflected by the phase difference between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The higher the IQ, the less of a phase difference.
Meditation, which is known to synchronize the hemispheres of the brain, is said to increase wisdom, discernment, full spectrum intelligence (meaning logical as well as emotional), and other noble human qualities. It may be that the synchronization of the brain hemispheres creating a scalar field is the underlying mechanism of how meditation “works”!
We consider chaga mushroom to be one of the best herbal supplements to consume to increase your resilience against radiation of all types.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a mushroom that has been used for its medicinal properties by cold climate northern peoples for at least one thousand years. Siberians and Northern Europeans consume it regularly, and it is believed to give them extraordinary resistance to chronic illness, and considerably extended lifespans.
Chaga itself grows only in extremely harsh climates, consistently exposed to intensities of cold, wind and UV radiation that are very difficult for humans to live with. The mushroom adapts to its stressful environment by producing very high levels of antioxidants and other medicinal compounds that offer it internal protection from the elements. When we consume chaga, these medicinal elements become part of our own bodies, and over time with consistent use, can build up in our bodies and increase our own resilience to many forms of stress.
Chaga mushroom grows mainly on birch trees, concentrating the natural medicinal components of the birch bark itself. The part of chaga used medicinally does not look like what we commonly think of as a mushroom, with a stem an a cap (a fruiting body), but shows up as a rough looking brown/black mycelial mass (called a sclerotium, or a conk) that grows out of the side of the tree. Its dark brown color is due to its melanin content, which is an antioxidant color pigment that’s responsible for a large portion of its beneficial free radical scavenging effects.
More than 200 mycochemicals have been identified from chaga. These include water-soluble polyphenols and polysaccharides (including beta glucans), alcohol-soluble terpenes, and oil-soluble sterols. Betulin and betulinic acid are terpenes originating in the bark of the birch tree, which the chaga mushroom concentrates. These terpenes occur in the outer black crust of the chaga mushroom, and have potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immune modulating properties. This substance is only present in wild chaga mushrooms (not lab cultivated strains) that utilize the black outer crust of the mushroom.
Currently, not much research has been done specifically on how chaga can protect us from the effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation in the microwave spectrum. However, we can look at the large body of research that shows the specific harmful effects of EMFs on the body, and then at the equally large body of research showing the specific beneficial and protective effects of chaga mushroom, and make the correlation ourselves through rational observation.
Long term non-ionizing EMF exposure has many similar effects on the body as exposure to UV and ionizing radiation, including oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, premature aging, DNA damage, and increased incidence of various cancers. A lot of research has already been done on the protective effects of chaga mushroom against UV and ionizing radiation, and the restorative effects it can have on previous radiation damage.
It is already well documented that electromagnetic fields produce oxidative stress and damage at the DNA level. Chaga mushroom has extraordinarily high levels of antioxidants that prevent oxidative stress and damage, and repair existing damage. EMFs damage cells in ways that increase their likelihood of mutating into cancerous cells. Chaga has anti-mutagenic properties, which increase cell integrity and resistance to mutation, and increase apoptosis (cell death) of misformed cells. A side effect of the harmful action of EMFs is inducing a state of chronic inflammation. Chaga is anti-inflammatory, due to its ability to protect the body from the root causes of chronic inflammation.
Chaga is considered a powerful adaptogen, which refers to a substance that helps the body respond in a way that’s appropriate to whatever is needed at that time. It can assist in ramping up immune power if there’s an actual invader that needs to be eliminated, or if the immune system is overreacting or trying to fight something it shouldn’t be fighting (like EMFs), it helps to calm it down. Adaptogens improve the body’s innate intelligence, so that it will respond appropriately to any given situation. They can help increase energy levels and mental focus during the day when cortisol should be higher, and then help you calm down and rest in the evening as cortisol naturally lowers and melatonin increases.
Chaga is one of the highest antioxidant substances known, which can neutralize the oxidative stress of EMFs, and restore balance and harmony at the cell level.
Thousands of studies have been done on the medicinal benefits of chaga mushroom, and its potential for future treatment in the immunotherapy realm of modern medicine looks promising. Therefore, there are experiments being done to figure out how to grow chaga in a lab environment. Unfortunately, lab grown chaga at this time is considerably inferior in medicinal aspects, compared to wild chaga.
If you want the strongest and most medicinal chaga, make sure the chaga you source comes from a wild place. You’ll also want to make sure it’s sustainably harvested, with respect to the natural populations of chaga in that environment.
Chaga that’s at least a dual-extract (water and alcohol) will have a potent and well rounded nutritional and medicinal profile. Some of the important components of chaga will only come out in water (like most of the polyphenols and polysaccharides), and some only come out in alcohol (like the terpenes), so the combination is important. The best option is a full spectrum extract that contains the water, alcohol, and oil soluble compounds that have been properly extracted, in small batch production.
Lastly, the highest quality and most medicinal chaga on the market will utilize not just the inner part of the mushroom, which is an orange-brown color, but also the extremely potent outer crust, which is black and rough looking. Some of the vital compounds (like betulin) only exist in this crust, and most sources that sell chaga leave this part out entirely!
Our favorite chaga, which meets all these criteria for the ideal chaga source, can be found here:

When it comes to EMF protection, we believe in a full spectrum, comprehensive approach. Blushield running in the background of your life, providing protection at the cell level with its biologically coherent frequency field, plus optimal nutrition that includes powerful herbal substances like chaga, is a winning combination!
Until this past year, we only had two options for portable units, and both were mono band devices like our Plugin and Cube home devices. Mono band refers to the classic Blushield multiple waveform algorithm that’s produced for a couple of seconds at a time, repeating every 30 seconds, broadcasted from Blushield’s pure scalar carrier signal. Until halfway through 2020, when we launched the Premium Ultra home model, this was how all of our devices worked.
Due to the particularly intense effect that 5G has on the body if you find yourself in “line of fire” of its beamforming, phased array technology (you can read more about the unique way that 5G works here), our team of engineers found a way to significantly increase the protective capacity of our devices, so that the effects of this more intense EMF exposure could be considerably minimized.
The Premium Ultra was our first dual band home device, and in 2021, we launched our first dual band portable device, the U1 Ultimate Portable. It produces the same every-30-second pulsations of our classic, old school portable models. However, the U1 has an additional microprocessor – one instead of two – giving it a dual band output, instead of the mono band of our standard white Portable. This additional signal is being emitted constantly (instead of just every 30 seconds), and out of all the nature-based frequency patterns Blushield uses, the second frequency band of the U1 specifically utilizes Phi ratio patterns. This constant emission of Phi ratio waveforms (which are still infinitely changing in terms of exact frequency and amplitude) is designed to hold your body's entrainment to the Blushield signal when exposed to much more intense EMF sources, such as being in close range of one or more 5G antennas, or in the vicinity of high band (millimeter wave) 5G. It also assists the body in regenerating more quickly from the small percentage of radiation that does still affect your body (since Blushield is estimated to be 93-97% effective if you choose the appropriate strength model for your overall EMF exposure).
Near the end of 2021, we added three more dual band portable models to our lineup! All four offer the same base protection strength, which is about twice as strong as our classic mono band Premium Portable device. Beyond that, they have similarities and differences, and if you’re looking for a strong portable to protect you from 5G while you’re out and about, it’s likely that one of the four will be most ideal for your particular needs!
Let’s talk about the differences between our four dual band portables, as well as our classic mono band Premium Portable.

Technological advancements have propelled massive progress in almost all areas of human life, but there is also a huge downside to this rapid, unchecked level of growth: we don’t always slow down enough to consider the potential harm of the methods we have chosen to utilize to meet our goals. We need to consider more than just the immediate danger and harm, which can be seen in the “I didn’t die from it yet so it must be okay” mindset, and be able to foresee the potential harm our actions are having on future generations.
The level of toxic elements that we are exposed to on a daily basis is at an all time high, coming at us from all directions, including from the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, as well as the invisible electromagnetic fields that surround us 24/7. These invisible EMFs from manmade devices, especially wireless radiation sources like cell phones and Wifi, emit repetitive frequencies that generate stress and damage at the cell level of all living organisms.
The most recent generation of children was born into this unprecedented level of convenience and comfort, as well as the invisible soup of toxic elements coming at them from many sources at once. Not surprisingly, this generation of children deals with the highest prevalence of chronic illness ever in recorded history – including chronic allergies, asthma, skin conditions, mental/mood disorders, autism, childhood onset cancer and diabetes, and many more obscure and “unexplainable” health conditions beyond those.
Although our ancestors were faced with many challenges that we thankfully no longer have to deal with, our kids are up against an entirely new kind of difficult situation. The issues are multifaceted and involve all aspects of modern life, so there’s really too much to cover here, but let’s talk about one of the most insidious and underestimated threats to our children’s long term health: non-native electromagnetic fields.
Why are children more affected by EMFs than adults?
All of the cell phone “safety tests” are done on a human body with the attributes of a 6-foot tall, 200 pound, fully grown man, and cannot be applied to children. Children have much less body mass than adults, resulting in stronger effects from the same levels of EMF exposure. In addition to that, children are different than adults in significant ways that make them far more susceptible to EMF harm. The brain and nervous system are not fully developed until physical maturity (early 20’s), and developing tissue is more susceptible to damage than fully formed tissue. Since their heads will continue to grow until physical maturity, the skulls of children are softer and thinner, allowing more radiation to penetrate into their brains. The younger the child, the softer and thinner the skull, and the more danger of harm from EMF exposure.
Children’s heads and bodies also have a considerably higher water content, which acts as a radiation conductor and amplifies harmful effects. Add to that the accumulation of radiation over time – in modern times, children are exposed to exponentially higher levels of radiation from a much younger age than what their parents and grandparents had to deal with, which means more time to accumulate damage throughout their lives.
So the damage potential is much higher to begin with, and now we have to factor in the technology use habits of modern children and teenagers. A surprisingly high percentage of kids and teenagers have their own cell phones, and many of them sleep with their phones right next to their bed or even under their pillows, directly exposing their brains to RF radiation.
As an EMF conscious parent, you have likely already limited your kids’ use of devices, but there is only so far you can go without restricting their access to the reality of their peers, and even participation in school and other activities they’re interested in. Many parents feel there needs to be a balance between protecting their kids from EMFs, and letting them utilize the benefits of technology for learning and communication.
EMF protection for children
For the vast majority of parents reading this, you don’t want to remove technology entirely from your kids’ lives, considering the great benefits it can have to their learning process and building skills for modern times. There are ways you can allow them to utilize technology in a much safer way, preserving their health in the process. It’s important to prioritize their health first, since if they don’t have their good health, their skills won’t matter!
If your child has their own phone, or has access to your phone, you can teach them some basic “EMF hygiene” that will keep them far safer in the long term. First of all, teach them to never keep a cell phone against their body for long periods of time (such as in a pocket) unless it’s turned off, or on airplane mode. If it must remain turned on (so you can get ahold of them in the case of an emergency, for example), it’s much better for the phone to be in a backpack or bag they keep near them, than in a pocket or directly against their body.
Make sure they don’t place a laptop computer on their lap, but that it’s placed further away on a table, preferably at least one foot away from their body. When they need to make a call, it’s important that they don’t hold a cell phone directly against their head. This exposes them to extremely high levels of EMFs. It’s better to use the speakerphone setting, or to use AirTube headphones. AirTubes are different than wired headphones, because the final six inches before reaching the ear pieces are tubes of air that transmit the sound acoustically, rather than electronically through a wire. This means the EMFs stop 6 inches away from their head, instead of being channeled like an antenna through the wire directly into their sensitive ear canals.
If they keep their phone next to their bed at night, have them make sure to turn it on airplane mode. You can still use the phone’s alarm setting while it’s on airplane mode.
In addition to cultivating healthy habits while using devices, nutrition also plays an important role in EMF protection. A diet that’s centered on organic whole foods will provide the most nutrients and the least toxicity, increasing overall resiliency and vitality, and minimizing the heavy metals accumulated through food. Heavy metal toxicity in the body increases the harm from EMFs, as the metals act as a conductor that attracts and amplifies EMFs in the body. There are foods that kids can eat that can gently remove heavy metals from the body, including seaweeds, miso, spirulina and cilantro. Magnesium is an especially important nutrient, as it protects the cells from EMF harm, so make sure they are eating plenty of high magnesium foods, such as leafy greens, nuts, beans, fish, and even child-safe magnesium supplements. You can read more about this in our article on magnesium.
To deal with all the EMFs you can’t minimize or remove from your environment, Blushield EMF protection devices can bridge that gap so you and your children can still benefit from technology, with the addition of a strong protective field of nature-based frequency patterns that their body will preferentially resonate with. When the cells of the body are entrained with Blushield’s biologically coherent field, the vast majority of the harm from the other EMFs is removed, without having to physically remove those EMF emitting devices from your home!
We have noticed that kids can be even more responsive to the beneficial frequency field of Blushield than adults, because their instincts are usually stronger and they don’t deal with the “mind chatter” of the adult world. Often, even if a child doesn’t know about a new Blushield device in their home, they will comment about feeling different or better in some way. We also find that children seem to intuitively grasp how Blushield works, and short videos that explain the frequency field visually, like this one, are very effective at giving them a basic understanding.
How to equip your kids with a Blushield portable unit
Just like with adults, the most important Blushield device for children is a stationary home unit of the appropriate strength for your living situation and needs. This home device should emit a strong enough signal to become the dominant frequency field in your surroundings, overriding the combined total of EMFs around you (which is different for everyone, depending on where you live). We have different home devices designed for rural areas, suburban areas, cities, and dense metropolitan areas. Investing in the model that’s the right strength for you will make sure you’re optimally protected. You can find out which one is ideal for your needs by reading our Blushield Product Guide.
The home device is important because since it plugs into the wall and uses mains power, it’s able to produce a strong field with a very large coverage area, to protect the entirety of your home and the outdoor spaces where your children play. This is their baseline protection, and is the field they are immersed in as they sleep at night, which is when the body restores and regenerates itself from the stresses of the day… and for kids, that’s when a lot of their growth and development happens, physically and mentally!
If your children leave your home during the day to attend school (or other activities if they’re homeschooled), it would be optimal to equip them with their own Blushield portable device. We just created two new wearable options for portables, which can provide a lot more versatility for children!
If your kids are older and able to be responsible with a portable device, they could just carry one of our standard rectangular portable devices in a secure pocket throughout the day. It’s best to place the portable in a pocket that buttons or zips up, so that it won’t fall out during the day, especially if they engage in physical activity. Another alternative is keeping the portable in their backpack, as long as they stay within 9 feet of the backpack during most or all of the time they’re away from home.
For younger children who aren’t yet able to understand why and how to be responsible for a device, the X1 Pendant is the ideal choice. It is a fairly small diamond shaped device that has a clip attachment, and can be attached to a variety of things, including a necklace, belt loop, or backpack. It can be attached to a small chain that hooks onto their belt loop, and the device itself tucked into the pocket of their pants, so that it’s out of sight and if it does happen to fall out of their pocket, it’s still connected to the chain so it won’t get lost. The X1 is also ideal for younger kids because there is no on/off button (unlike our other portables), so it won’t be possible for them to fiddle with the button and turn it off during the day, which would turn off the protective field. Since the X1 runs continuously and doesn’t turn on or off, it’s best to give it a quick charge every one or two days before your child leaves the house with it.
For kids ages 8 and older, the W1 Blushield Watch is another good option. The watch is somewhat large, which is necessary to house a big enough battery to create a strong protective field. It may be too large for younger kids, but will fit older kids and teenagers, and the added benefit of being able to tell the time and date will appeal to a lot of older kids.
Protecting children is one of the things we are most passionate about, as they are our future! Most of us on the Blushield USA team have children of our own. We have extensive experience using Blushield as a protective tool to maintain their health and well being in these challenging times, and truly believe in it as a key piece of their healthy and thriving future.
