Chances are, there are at least a few around you at all times. We will give you the tools you need to know how many there are for sure.
Over 90% of adults and more than 50% of children in the United States have cell phones. Worldwide cell phone usage is said to surpass 5 billion. And if that’s not enough, those numbers are expected to grow in the future. With so many mobile phones in use today, cell towers are ubiquitous, and more are springing up every day.
Health Effects of Cell Phone Towers
With the rise of so many cell phone towers, human beings are exposed to increasing levels of electromagnetic radiation. But is this healthy for us? Cell phone towers emit high-frequency radio waves that have a powerful effect on our health. Not only that but the closer you are to them, the more dangerous the effects. According to Physicians for Safe Technology, studies show a correlation between the distance from base stations of cell phone towers and the effect it has on people’s health. Some of the problems attributed to the effect of electromagnetic radiation include insomnia, heart palpitations, memory loss, low sperm count, birth defects and last, but not least, cancer.
There's more to cell phone towers than meets the eye.
With so many concerns about the safety of cell phone towers, is there a way to know if there is a cell phone tower nearby? Most people think of very tall masts with what looks like tall, rectangular panels around the top. Or you may have even seen a water tower covered in the same panels. (Let's not even get into the fact that we are microwaving the water...) The fact is, that just because you don’t see a cell phone tower in your area doesn’t mean they don’t exist. The reason? Cell towers are often even camouflaged to look like objects that blend into the environment, such as trees, cactuses, sculptural art, crosses, (Yes, crosses!) and other things! Don’t believe it? There are entire websites dedicated to sharing this information with the public including http://www.celltowerphotos.com/ and http://www.waymarking.com.
The reasons that these companies conceal their cell phone towers are beyond the scope of this article; however, if you’re the least bit concerned about the potential danger, it’s important that you find out where they are so you can take appropriate steps to protect you and your family.
The good news is that in the United States the FCC requires the registration of cell towers and antenna locations, which makes it easy to find out where they are.
How can I find out if there is cell phone tower near me?
Luckily for us, there are several websites and apps that you can use to find out this information. One website is called Antenna Search.
Their website says they are a free online resource that pinpoints exactly where cell phone towers and antennas are located all over the United States. To find out where one is near you, visit http://www.antennasearch.com/, and enter an address or a zip code in the search box.
After entering your information, you’ll be taken to another page where you’ll receive a report on the number of towers and antennas in your area.
That's a lot of towers! If you live in a place like this, then you're going to want a Blushield Cube or Ultra (or the Premium versions, if you think you may be very close to a 5G antenna) to help mitigate the effects of the cell towers' EMFs. Keep in mind, this is not taking into consideration all the other sources of EMF.
Alternate Resources to Find Cell Phone Tower Locations
Other websites offer similar information, and one of these is called OpenCellID. On their website, OpenCellID says about themselves that they are ‘’the world's largest open database of cell towers’’.
According to Wikipedia, they are a co-operative public project that collects information about cell towers locations from over 50,000 registered members who contribute to the database daily. Wikipedia also states that as of August 21, 2017, OpenCellID’s database ‘’contained 35.5 million unique cells and 2.1 billion unique measurements’’. OpenCellID distributes their aggregate under a Creative Commons license. You can visit them at https://opencellid.org.
‘There’s an App for that’
Another helpful resource is an app from OpenSignal. According to Wikipedia, OpenSignal is a company that uses crowdsourcing information to provide wireless reporting mapping to the public. OpenSignal gathers information from its user base who use their mobile application.
Using the application, customers can view the crowdsourced information in the form of color-coded maps. The application is available for Android and Apple/IOS and is available on Google Play store or by visiting their website: https://opensignal.com/.
And yes, there is some irony in using an app to look for cell towers, especially if your concern is your health. That's why it's a great idea to keep a Blushield Portable on you when using a smart phone, and keeping the phone as far away from the body as possible.
Like it or not, cell phone towers are here to stay. There’s no telling how the technology may change in the future...except that with 5G even more towers are likely coming.
What’s important, however, is if you’re at all concerned about the negative health effects that cell phone towers may have on you and your family, then it’s vital to have the information you need so you can act accordingly.
Protecting ourselves and our families from the increasing amounts of microwave radiation is paramount. If you have read our other blog posts on the health effects of EMF, then you know why. Blushield mitigates EMF on the cellular level, and is necessary in any EMF protection protocol.
