Due to widespread doubts about its health and safety, a noteworthy resistance to fifth-generation wireless technology (5G) is occurring across Europe and beyond. On March 31st, Brussels (Belgium) became the first city to halt 5G rollout based on health concerns. For Brussels to accept 5G, they would first have to increase allowable radiation limit ordinances by 30-40%.
Celine Fremault, Environmental Minister for the Brussels-Capital Region, explained to the press, “I cannot welcome such technology if the radiation standards, which must protect the citizen(s), are not respected, 5G or not. The people of Brussels are not guinea pigs whose health I can sell at a profit.”
Other recent moves against 5G in and around Europe include:
- Florence, Italy refuses permissions for 5G
- The Russian Ministry of Defence refuses to transfer spectrum frequencies for 5G use
- Dutch members of parliament insist that radiation research must be carried out before approving 5G
- Germans sign a petition to force the Bundestag (German federal parliament) to debate 5G
- A district in Rome votes against 5G trials
International Appeal: Stop 5G on Earth and in Space
In 2018, an International Appeal was written to stop the rollout of 5G in every country on earth, and in space. As of June 2019, it has been signed by over 100,000 people from at least 187 countries, including scientists, doctors, environmental organizations, engineers, architects and more. The appeal is addressed to the UN, WHO, EU, Council of Europe and governments of all nations, and has been printed in 27 languages. “5G – the 5th generation of wireless technology – must not be built on Earth or in Space. The notion that radio frequency radiation, commonly known as radio waves, is somehow not real radiation and is harmless, was disproven by the 1970s in laboratories all over the world, and the harm to humans, animals and plants has since been confirmed in over 10,000 peer-reviewed studies. If 5G is built, radiation levels will increase 10- to 100-fold, virtually overnight, everywhere. There will literally be no place on Earth to hide from it.
The effects of levels of radio frequency radiation already existing now on the health of the population and the environment, as reflected in quality of life; high rates of cancer, neurological disease, heart disease and diabetes, even in children; plummeting populations of birds, bees and butterflies; and unhealthy forests, can be seen and felt everywhere.

Why exactly is 5G such a concern?
The urgency of concern comes from a multitude of angles. 20,000 satellites are authorized to be deployed into the lower and middle atmosphere of Earth, to broadcast the very high radio frequency radiation of 5G. This particular frequency range has not been safety tested for biological and environmental effects, but radio frequency radiation at levels currently used for 4G and 3G networks, cell phones and wifi (which are far lower frequencies than 5G will be), has consistently demonstrated adverse effects on all biological life. The main purpose of these 20,000 satellites will be to blast radiation into the wild places, the far corners of the earth, which are currently “off-grid” and have the most teeming abundance of wildlife. Their selling point on this is to “increase connectivity in rural areas,” which can be accomplished much more effectively and safely, and with far lower energy consumption, with municipal broadband/fiber optic cables.
The implications of radiating these pristine, currently untouched areas could be devastating to all life on earth.
Another significant danger of filling the Earth’s atmosphere and ionosphere with tens of thousands of new satellites, all transmitting high frequency radiation, is potential effects on the Earth’s entire ecosystem. The Earth, the ionosphere and the lower atmosphere all form what’s called the “global electric circuit,” which is the natural electromagnetic environment we live in. It is well established that the biological rhythms of all life – humans, other mammals, birds, insects, plants and even microbes – rely on the stability of this environment for their health and well-being.
In 1985, Dr. Robert O. Becker found that radiation from power lines reaches the Earth’s ionosphere and magnetosphere, and had already destabilized its structure. What can we do to protect ourselves?
Becoming aware and informed about the ongoing 5G battle being waged between government agencies, telecommunications industries, scientists, doctors, experts on electromagnetic radiation, and concerned citizens is vital. The future of the Earth and all its inhabitants could be affected greatly by the outcome of this battle between ethics and “progress,” which ultimately causes us to ponder deeply if ethics and progress even need to be contradictory – or is there a way to further our technological complexity and achievement in ways that are ethical and biologically harmonious?
